Flu when pregnant

Hi guys

So I've got the flu, I'm 34 weeks pregnant

Has anyone else had the flu when pregnant? Is it dangerous for baby? I'm doing the usual resting and drinking plenty of fluids, just wondered if anyone else pregnant had it and if theres anything I should be doing or on the look for

Do not want to be the person who rings gp for the flu as I know theres nothing they can do for me and just have to ride it out

Lots of info on Google but would prefer to hear it from a fellow pregnant lady!

Thanks ladies xx

I would call your midwife, doctor or maternity unit, it can be dangerous for baby which is why you have to have flu jabs while pregnant and it's always better to call and ask the question than risk it

Is it a cold or you been diagnosed with the flu? Definitely get advice from gp if the flu as you might get really dehydrated and they would want to keep an eye on you and baby

The annoying thing is I had my flu jab a month ago!

To be honest I've self diagnosed myself

Coughing, sneezing, headache, sinuses are hurting, keep going hot and then cold, achey bones and just feel like absolute rubbish in general!

Ahh okay thanks ladies will see how I feel tomorrow and give the gp a call xx

It's more likely a bad cold from what you've said. Proper flu would make you sicker.

If it helps:

If you have a cold, you’ll probably have symptoms like these:

runny or stuffy nose
sore throat
sneezing
cough
headache or body aches
mild tiredness
Flu symptoms can include:

dry, hacking cough
moderate to high fever, although not everyone with the flu will run a fever
sore throat
shaking chills
severe muscle or body aches
headache
stuffy and runny nose
severe fatigue that may last up to two weeks
nausea and vomiting, as well as diarrhea (most common in children)

I had a bad virus when about 12 weeks pregnant. I thought it might have been the flu as came on suddenly with a high temp and I couldn't get out of bed for a couple of days. But it went away fairly quickly so I think it probably was just a bad cold. Anyway, I spoke to the GP just in case. Was advised to take regular paracetamol as it's important to keep the temperature down. I would speak to the GP anyway just in case. Hope you feel better soon.

That sounds like a nasty cold to me.

If it actually was flu you could be prescribed Tamiflu.

Mydogatemypurse · 17/12/2019 21:47

Seek medical advice. Lots of water and check you are ok with paracetamol.
If it's any reassurance I had swine flu with my first child.
I lost days in bed but we were both healthy and well. I had that injection too

I had flu (no diagnosis but all the symptoms - came on suddenly, high temp, cough, chills, exhaustion, aching etc) that started when I was 34 weeks. I can even tell you the exact date - it was my 34 week scan. By the end of the day I was really ill.

I spoke to the midwife and continued taking paracetamol. It was three weeks before I left the house and didn't really recover until after the baby was born. Birth was straightforward and uncomplicated and baby was completely healthy - she is now 17 and has had just one course of antibiotics and 2 episodes of d & v!
