Hi.

Friday night when i went to the loo there was a patch of light browny/orangy spotting on the toilet paper. Naturally it scared me, so i rang my friends mother whos a modwife of 30 years. She advised it could be a number of things, could be an infection, could be way placenta is lying, potentially a burst capillary (i have had constipation and strained a little on the loo recently, but the spotting its definitely from my vagina, not my back passage). She told me just to keep an eye on it, and if it becomes more heavy, red, and i have cramps, painful twinges and tightening then to ring the midwife unit. Its not

Since then, ive had no major spotting, but on occasions today when going to the loo ive seen tiny bits of very light brown specs on the paper again. I also feel a little itchy and sore below from time to time, could it be thrush? Although i know thrush doesn’t usually come with brown spotting/discharge.

Is this normal or anything to be worried about? I have no cramps/abdominal pain. My pee isnt red/pink, its fairly clear. And it’s tiny specs of very light brown when i wipe occasionally. I feel abit reluctant to ring the hospital unit for tiny specs but also dont want to over look anything incase its a sign of anything? Plus, i feel my maternity unit always just seem to say ‘if you’re worried, you can go to A&E, its up to you’. (Last time i had minor brown mucus/spotting at 6 weeks, i rang and this was their advice, or that it could be implantation bleeding, which it was).

This is my first pregnancy so i dont even know if it is anything to be worried about?

I’m 18 weeks and have had spotting on and off for the whole pregnancy so far. It could be a cervical ectropian which is a sensitive patch on the cervix that easily bleeds I.e. after intercourse or when constipated or sometimes for no reason at all!! I ring my maternity unit whenever it happens and they check baby heart beat etc. If you are worried give them a call, it’s always best to get yourself checked, that’s what they are there for! Good luck!

@MLP123 Thanks for the response. It does seem that the constipated strained bowel movement seemed to have triggered it, so yeah it could be cervical ectropion as i do have some symptoms.

Luckily my friends mother whos a midwife is happy for me to call her when ever. Its not worsened since, specs seem to be less occasional and very light so im just trying not to stress just yet. I know thats what the maternity ward at the hospital is there for, its just hard to know if im over reacting or not. Thank you xx
