Sleeping tablets and smoking

Hi all,
I'm really asking for advice here and not to get told off lol.
So I found out I was pregnant on Tuesday.
Before I knew I was pregnant I'd been taking nytol on and off for around a year as if I don't I won't fall asleep until 4 in the morning. Also I smoked around 4/5 fags a day.
Since finding out I'm pregnant I'm struggling with my cravings. I haven't been taking sleeping tablets so I'm hardly sleeping. And I'm not smoking which is giving me bad mood swings and I feel like scratching the walls with frustration.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help with cravings? It's in the mornings and evenings I struggle the most. And any help with the not sleeping aspect??

You can chew nicotine gum to wean yourself off the cigarettes. It's the smoke that is most dangerous. Try some natural sleep remedies and yoga. In the long run you will probably benefit from stopping taking nytol and getting to sleep more naturally. Though don't expect amazing sleep throughout pregnancy!!

Can't comment on the smoking but I find sleepytime cream from Lush to be amazing and really helps put you to sleep. My granny always recommended putting lavender spray on your pillow, but Im not sure if that works or not.

Well done on giving up both, cant be easy :)

I feel for you, I’ve given up smoking on finding out I’m pregnant too, it’s really hard! Well done on quitting both this far even though you’re climbing the walls

I had my last cigarette 3 weeks ago and it’s only in the last 3 days that I’m not thinking about it constantly and it’s suddenly become bearable - just hang on, it gets easier

I gave myself permission to eat whatever I liked for the first two weeks as weight gain would be less damaging than smoking - I put on 7lbs over 3 weeks 🙈 but I’m back in control now. Fruity chewing gum also helps curb a craving (I can’t stand nicotine gum!)

For sleep, look up ‘sleep hygiene’ and follow the advice to the letter to make yourself a bedtime routine. It will take a few weeks for you to sort your sleep cycle out, but in the meantime allow yourself a short nap in the afternoon if you can find time.

Hard work and frustrating now, but you’ll be so proud of yourself and feeling much better in 3-4 weeks! Hang in there!

Hi everyone Thankyou so much for your comments they really mean a lot to me and have helped me.
@Nelbert19
Thankyou so much for your comment and thankyou for being so honest too. I didn't realise how much I depended on it until now!! Congratulations for doing so well you should be proud of yourself! I'll try and keep myself busy and I'll look into the sleep hygiene thing you was on about!

Read this book. I struggled for years and smoked much more than you. This book changes how you think of smoking and you won’t even want it. I got it after someone recommended it on here and it’s been life changing.
Good luck OP.
