Being sick at least 11 times a day, how do I cope? :(

Hi,

I am new on here. I am 7 weeks 3 days pregnant and since week 6 I have had terrible morning sickness.

I am throwing up at least 7 times a day, and it wakes me up every hour - two hours through the night to throw up. So a total of about 11 times in 24 hours.

I can hardly keep any food down or liquid. I went to my doctor on Wednesday who told me I’m dehydrated and gave me Stemetil and Metoclopramide tablets but these aren’t working, maybe because I almost always throw them back up.

I don’t know what to do anymore, I can’t go to work, I can’t get out of bed and I hardly get two minutes where I don’t think I’m about to throw up!

I suffered a missed miscarriage 2 years ago and I was so poorly then as well that it took the midwife over an hour to get blood from me as I was so dehydrated.

Anyone else experienced this?! Please help!!! ☹️

Yes, I have had this. You cannot cope with that, your body cannot cope with vomiting 11 times a day more than a few days. Go back to the doctor's before you get any worse, you are at risk of severe dehydration. There is stronger, safe medication they can give you (cyclizine, ondansetron).

Good luck

@mythicalbiologicalfennel thank you for replying, I did think I should go back to the doctor as I’m noticing signs of dehydration getting worse and just don’t think I can go on like this!!

Thanks :)

My gp referred me to the hospital for a drip at this point and they gave me cyclazine it gave me time to regroup to get the other meds to work, good luck x

Hey hun, so it sounds like you have hyperemesis.
You need to go back to the doctors and request new antisickness - they normally try you on cyclizine first and see how you get on but you may end up on ondansetron (the strongest one)
Did the doctor test your urine? You need to keep an eye on your urine to check for ketones - if you get ketones you will be admitted into hospital and put on some iv fluids. I brought some ketone strips from off eBay and check daily.

As for trying to keep things down - take small sips of whatever you feel you can stomach at the time. Ice lollies are a good call as well as you're still getting the liquid but only in small, slow amounts.
Try to snack regularly as the hungrier you get the worse you'll get.
Rest and sleep are your friend. I am 16 weeks and have only just stopped sleeping my days away.

Go see your GP OP. I had this form of morning sickness and was diagnosed with HG.

Thank you everyone so much for your comments and advice, I have called my doctors and am due a call back this afternoon at some point. I will make sure I request something else as I don't want to be putting myself or baby at risk by getting too dehydrated!

Just wanted to check I wasn't being dramatic and this was somehow normal before I made another appointment lol.

Just want to feel normal again and it's only been a week and a half! Dreading the weeks to come until it hopefully goes away!!

Xx

Hi OP, I had Hyperemesis with DC1. I’m sorry to say it lasted until 7 months. I found eating during the day helped. Cut down what you eat in the evening. My GP said to try to hold down any food you do eat for 30 mins. Then you get some nutrients before the food exits again. Also don’t eat or drink anything cold. Go for room temperature water etc. Drink slowly in small amounts but regularly to avoid dehydration. If none of this works go to A&E for a drip to rehydrate. I also tried charcoal. Didn’t work for me but works for a lot of women with hg. Can get it from GP or health food stores. Happy to say DC1 was absolutely fine, good birth weight etc. Had zero morning sickness with DC2. Wishing you a better time very soon. ❤️

You can get ketostix from the chemist to check for dehydration.

Definitely make a big fuss to your GP. Some don't take it seriously.

HG sufferer here.. the problem with anti-sickness tablets is they’ll only work if you can keep them down. A big issue for me. The key for me was getting to hospital & having some via IV. That stopped my vomiting enough that the next day, I could then keep the tablets down and they worked. So long as I took a very exact dose at exactly the same time each day, my vomiting was controlled enough to keep the tablets in! I had a couple of occasions where it failed and I just spiralled back to vomiting every 45 minutes and needed to go back to hospital & start again!

I also got very dehydrated and needed a lot of fluids on admission. Can’t tell you how much more human they make you feel!

Keep pushing for help OP. It’s crippling & 11 times a day is not normal. Go to A&E if you need too. And have a look at the charity called Pregnancy Sickness Support, a fantastic help for severe sickness sufferers!

You are not being over dramatic at all. You need to stand your ground and get different treatments. Does sound like you need a drip perhaps to rehydrate.
It is so miserable. I was desperate to sleep and nausea and vomiting kept waking me... Morning sickness... I wished! Hope you get the attention you need.

Feelingpoorlysick · 13/12/2019 17:40

You need to go back to the gp and get some different medication to try or you could end up in hospital on a drip.
I had HG and was sick 30 times in 24hours at my worst so I can sympathise! It's really not nice. 💐

Yep this was key for me too as sometimes it's impossible to keep oral meds down for long enough. I still remember the high I got from cyclizine injections...
