Hello,

I am 8 weeks pregnant and already suffering significant hip pain. Walking, bending, stairs are already difficult. (Brief history I have always had hip trouble but had hip surgery a year ago to resolve some of the issues. Was recovering well till this).

  1. has anyone else experienced pain this early? If so, did it go away and what did you do that helped?

  2. did your pain get better after the baby was born?

I can't imagine this for another 7ish months... if it's this bad now without weight gain I can only imagine how bad it could get.

I started getting pain in my hips very early, can’t remember exactly when. Also felt like I’d been hit by a bus generally. Found out I was having twins at 12 weeks so it made more sense.

The hip pain was then not too bad until about 18 weeks when it started to increase and it did get much worse towards the end. Only thing I found that helped was some of that physio tape (can’t remember the proper name now) - if you look online there are lots of guides to how to place it for SPD

I had bad hip pain from 10 weeks, I have a pre existing joint condition (hypermobility) and although my GP thought it was PGP, when I saw a physio she confirmed it actually wasn't, it was just the pregnancy hormones making my existing condition much worse. My physio was brilliant and gave me some excercises to strengthen the specific bits of the hip joint that were causing problems. It took about six weeks to see an improvement but since then it has massively improved. Now at 33 weeks I am in loads less pain than I was at 13 weeks, despite being several stone heavier, and sleeping much better because previously my hips were walking me up in pain every half hour or so.

I would really recommend you get referred to a physio asap as the weight can be lengthy (I waited 6 weeks which felt like forever!). At my hospital you can self refer to physio or your GP can as well.

Yes first child it came at 12 weeks and took 4 months to go away

2nd baby it came at 6/8 weeks and it was 14 months till it went away enough for me to start exercising and now 3 years post baby it just bothers me for a couple of days when my period is due

I got it at 6 weeks with my first, went away after about two and didn't come back. This pregnancy I got it around 20 weeks and again it only lasted a couple of weeks. Both times it was excruciating and I couldn't lift one of my legs so utterly bizarre it disappeared during both pregnancies. Not that I'm complaining!!
