How do you know when morning sickness is about to strike? Do you gradually feel more nauseous or do you suddenly have to be sick?

You will just know - trust me.

You may be lucky and not get it at all, some people only get a bit oof nausea, some just cant stop being sick. But if you are going to suffer with it, you will just know.

Yes and yes .

Depends entirely on you.

I had no MS at all in any of my pgs, just a bit of nausea but I'm not generally a puker anyway.

My dsis otoh, has always been prone to being sick and sicky bugs and she has spent the last 8 weeks throwing up. She does get some warning of when she's about to vomit and has never missed making it to the loo. She does tend to feel nauseous all day as well though.

Ditto like your sister. altho I have been sick at my desk once - thank god everyone had left for the day

Naetha · 23/08/2007 16:26

You know.

If you're lucky you can clench your teeth as hard as possible until you get to the loo, outside, away from everyone else, i.e. somewhere you can safely puke!

I also found I salivated loads just before I was about to be sick. The worst trigger for me was smells - if I smelled something (anything set me off, from deodorant to food smells to rubber) then I would vomit within about 5 seconds.

Mixedmama waves hysterically at Naetha.

With DD, I gradually felt more nauseous for a period of two weeks then YAK YAK YAK. The water from my shower hit my skin one morning and life for two months was not the same. I puked walking into my kitchen. I puked walking in the front door every evening after work. I puked driving home from work...that took talent. Then one day I woke up and didn't feel sick anymore. I puked one last time during false labor about a two weeks before I delivered.

Go blindly for now. Don't look for it. If you're going to be sick, it will just happen.

Best of luck .

I remember the first time it got me and it was after I'd been standing up on the tube on the way home being lurched back and forth and side to side. You do just know - I got it worse in the late afternoon/evening and it is just like feeling horribly seasick. Then, you're just waiting to actually be sick to get rid of the nausea! (sorry!) But then smells also got me too, and you get very little warning about that!

But, you may be lucky you know. Not everyone suffers by all means... And if you do suffer, remember that the worse passes by 12 weeks or so.

I felt more and more nauseous over only a few days and then the vomiting started for 30 WEEKS! It is absolutely horrible and be very happy if you don't get it!

doggiesayswoof · 23/08/2007 16:51

Either/both. Mild nausea/extreme nausea. Feeling sick but not actually being sick/being sick with hardly any warning.

It can be quite, er, varied.

Some people don't get it at all, I hear...

PurlyQueen · 23/08/2007 17:00

And to think that I was really upset last week because I didn't feel sick. I thought something must be wrong with the baby - irrational, I know. Now I'm dreading the Tube journey home - all those smells, yuck!

I only chucked a few times but felt sick every waking second for four frigging months. I could control it by eating though. The more hungry I was the more sick I got so I just learned to anticipate the times when I was likely to get hungry (meal times, obvously, and mid morning, mid afternoon, late evening)and scoff before the hunger actually struck. When I did chuck though, it was always gradual for me. Well, unless it involved a smell and then it could take seconds. So that's no help to you...

Needless to say now that it has passed I revel in feeling hungry without feling sick. It's bloody joyous.

Purly, don't worry about it. You may never get ms at all. I know plenty of women who haven't.

I mistook it for a tummy bug at first - was only 6 wks pg and didn't know that I was actually pg. I puked between 3 and 10 times every day for the full nine months. God it's wonderful not to be pregnant any more - to be able to clean my teeth without vomiting on my toothbrush, to sleep through the night without vomiting on my pillow (I even puked in my sleep)... But this is very rare!! Chances are you won't be sick at all.

By the way I used to suck Foxs Glacier Mints to cope with the smells on the Tube, it definitely helped. And I used to vomit on Gloucester Road station platform every single day (I got off the tube to throw up then got back on) - the station cleaner must have seen me on the CCTV and thought 'oh no, not her again'... So don't worry, if you vomit on the Tube they'll just sigh and remember me...

mines been different with every pregnancy

dd1 - was sick twice, never actually felt sick and didnt know i was going to be till i started wretching!

dd2 - felt sick in the am from about 6 wks was physically sick every couple of days.

dc3 - have felt sick from about 7 wks, mostly on am and last thing at night. have not puked though!

no warning that its starting, just feel sick and it gets progressivly worse till it levels a bit. some days you feel better and some you feel worse
