Ok, so I was taken to a&e yesterday with abdominal pain (which has turned out to be gastritis) and was told I'm pregnant. Got called to the early pregnancy unit this morning, who confirmed the baby is absolutely fine, and that I'm approximately 8 weeks along. I'm 36 years old, and never thought I'd actually ever be a mother. I had a stroke age 29, and have a couple of medical issues...so now I'm absolutely terrified about my baby. I do want him/her...but I'm alone as my relationship was a bad one, so the dad is gone Sad my brother has been good about everything but my own mother is not exactly close to me. My dad- we used to be close, but not so much anymore. Theres no question on my mind- I'm happy about my baby (after initial crying and throwing up) but I know I'm kind of on my own. And being 36, I know I'm considered old to be pregnant. I really just wondered what other people's experiences have been like in similar situations, as yes I'm happy...but so scared too Confused

Congratulations.

My MIL was a single mum (from pregnancy) and had her one and only aged 42.

My friend is a single mum (from pregnancy) and had her one and only aged 38.

They both did/are doing a fab job. And you will too.

Use the pregnancy to get your plans into place. Childcare, support network (lots of pregnant women groups around), finance etc. etc.

You can do this. And Mumsnet is a great place to get ideas and support.

I had my daughter at 36. Best decision ever

Congratulations! What a lovely surprise. I had my first at 36, no problems, as much energy as the next mum 😂 I felt really ready in terms of my age, I'd had lots of fun but was ready for a change in life.

DC is now a teen, no regrets at starting later.
