Anyone had good experiences? What’s it like?
Booked in Monday for one (40 + 3)
Is it really that bad? :)

Ha I just came on to ask the same
Been advised to consider having one next Wednesday at 39 weeks and I’m not sure

An0nym0us2011 · 11/12/2019 14:57

I had one at 39+5 with my first baby and I went into labour 2 days after. Spent majority of the time on a yoga ball.
I was in slow labour with baby#2 at 38+3 days, they gave me a sweep & she was here 5 hours after

It's uncomfortable but I never found it painfull... Some do find it a little painfull though. X

An0nym0us2011 · 11/12/2019 14:58

First time didn't hurt, secknd baby she was really rough and left me in alot of pain

Maryam18 · 11/12/2019 14:59

I had one and went into labour the following morning. Expect some bleeding and it is quite unpleasant. I was told at the time my cervix was closed and quite difficult to get to so wasn't expecting much from it. Good luck Xx

I’m in 2 minds. When she first mentioned it I said no not until it is passed the due date but not sure what to do now. Wasn’t expecting to be offered any intervention until after the due date.

I Had one at 40+10 and she could feel babies ear !! He came a few hours later Smile

I had one last week at 38 +5 weeks which led to the loss of the mucus plug in the evening but not much else. Had a second one today 39 +4 so its a waiting game again.

I haven’t found them to bad just be prepared for a bit more discharge after (good to keep a pad handy if you have any plans after) and some mild cramping. The midwife won’t be able to do it unless your body is somewhat ready for it. So, I would say its worth ago if you are comfortable with the idea.

I've had one today at 40 weeks. Was like having a smear, a bit uncomfortable and did cause a small bleed after but was fine really. Found out I'm 2cm dilated as well.

Magpiefeather · 11/12/2019 15:45

I had one and was pleasantly surprised - it was not awful at all, perfectly endurable (and I’m someone who cries at smear tests, so more on the wuss side with these things). I had two, second one helped start my labour . Good luck

Ooh thanks all! I’ve only heard that it feels really uncomfortable is ‘horrible’ and it ‘hurts quite a bit’
Wasn’t so convinced about having one! But what’s more uncomfortable than being overdue anyway Grin good luck to all those with the due date in sight x
