Due Christmas day and already none of my coats fit. The thought of spending a decent sum of money on a winter coat which I'll only wear this year bothers me but I don't want to freeze. Any suggestions?

TIA

Topshop

Isabella Oliver.

Topshop cheaper!

There seem to be a lot of coats around at the moment that flare out from under the bust so you might get away with a non-maternity one that you could use again...

I have a double-breasted wool coat from Jigsaw that I can fasten only the top two lines of buttons. Amazingly, the coat still looks nice and drapes over my bump in a flattering fashion.

Otherwise, have seen some pg women in the large chunky cardies with skinny jeans tucked into flat boots and this also looked warm and snuggly, but yet still funky and fashionable.

meant to add this is a non-maternity coat that I bought for last winter so I use it when not pregnant too (and jigsaw quality is really good)

jojomamanbebe do one that's not too expensive.

eBay's always worth a try if you don't want to splash out...

i never bothered with one. i was so hot most of the time and wore dh's gortex jacket if was out walking. i would go down the cardy route.

My daughter (now 22 months) was born in November. I wore a Monsoon long boucle cardigan that fastened just below the bust with a velvet tie (empire line). It was brilliant and did me as a coat. I think they still sell them, in all sorts of lovely colours. I am still wearing it now so it is not a waste of money.

BetsyBoop · 23/08/2007 15:24

last time (due 18/12) I used DH's anorak

this time I'll probably not bother as due end of Oct, so won't be feeling cold enough by then to need a coat

MrsBadger · 23/08/2007 15:30

lots of 'swing' or 'trapeze' coats about atm that would hide a sizeable bump
Next
oasis - first 2
topshop

and as far as matwear goes this is rather cool

MrsBadger · 23/08/2007 15:31

oh and keep your eye on primark
they have little swing jackets and i guess will have similar coats

fleacircus · 23/08/2007 17:33

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the Oasis swing ones; not sure I'll fit into them though, seem to be getting enormous everywhere rather than developing the tidy bump I had imagined. Hadn't thought of just nicking DP's coat either, maybe mugging him is the answer.

dd born in feb wore jumpers, coat open or a huge wrap cardigan with scarf and hat if really cold. It was fine.

lullamay · 23/08/2007 17:35

I bought a lovely American GAP one on eBay. Cost me £60 but was so worth it. Wrap around style.

marmitemad · 23/08/2007 17:39

I was looking at Ebay to buy a plus size coat when a friend gave me 3 x size 20 coats in different styles which did the job very well.

Really like that topshop coat MrsBadger (may get one myself!)
