Lack of baby movements

Hi ladies,
I’m at my wits end, and I’m hoping that someone here can shed some light on this issue.
Im pregnant with baby number three, and didn’t feel movements with this one until 21 weeks.
At my 26 week check my midwife asked me about movements, and I told her I barely feel any.
I was sent for an emergency scan and the baby did not move at all.
Fast forward to now, I am 35 weeks pregnant. The last nine weeks I’ve had numerous scans, CTG’s and been admitted overnight twice.
There have been five ultrasounds where baby doesn’t move. At all. Literally, all you see is the heartbeat.
None of the doctors know why, and because the heart/lungs/brain/placenta are all fine, they can’t understand what’s going on. I keep being told ‘I’ve never seen anything like it’
I’m beside myself and was hoping there was someone here with a similar story who has a happy ending to share?
xx

Good luck today OP, I hope your little one is okay once he arrives. Stay positive Flowers

What a worry for you OP. Fingers crossed the sweep does the trick and your little one is with you safe and sound very soon

SirVixofVixHall · 25/12/2019 10:02

I hope everything goes well op. In my experience a sweep at 38 weeks might not do anything though as it is so early. Have they discussed a c-section ? I had a sweep closer to my due date ,but still too early for my body, in my case due to pre eclampsia. I did end up with a c-section, so prepare for one just in case.

squee123 · 26/12/2019 11:55

wishing you the best of luck with the sweep today

Good luck xxx

Just wanted to check, have the limbs been checked properly? There’s nothing wrong with his bones or joints at all? I assume it would have been picked up by now if so x

Just wanted to say I am thinking of you
Sending love x

Hi everyone,
I had a sweep this morning, as baby’s head was engaged. I’m not holding out much hope as sweeps didn’t work with my other two babies, and I was 42 weeks with both of them! But midwife said my cervix was forward, and I came away feeling better about the induction booked for this Saturday.
They haven’t mentioned a c-section, just an induction. I’m more concerned about the baby’s health during induction, as he isn’t ready to be born yet.... but I’m trying to keep positive and hope for the best. Hopefully in a few days time I can share happy news x

Yes, I am surprised they are not thinking of an elective c-section as they don’t know what is causing the limited movements. Obviously a natural delivery is normally better, but as there are concerns I would think a caesarean should be an option.
Maybe ask your team at what point you would be given a caesarean, or at what point you should ask for one ?
I tried for a VBAC with dd2, and a very helpful midwife suggested that if I was taken onto the labour ward from the birth unit, that would be a sign that things were not progressive ideally, and that I could ask for a c-section at that point. In the end that did happen but the consultant told me I needed another section, rather than me asking. It did help to have gone through possible scenarios beforehand though. (Traumatic section with dd1, that i was keen to avoid a repeat of) .
Thinking of you here OP.

crosspelican · 27/12/2019 08:23

Good luck! Thinking of you.

Monstermoomin · 27/12/2019 09:46

If he is 38 weeks then he is technically to term as it is classed as 38-42 as a to term pregnancy so he should be healthy in that sense.

Inductions (both pessary and drip) can make things more painful so make sure yoy are aware of your pain relief options and as a PP said, it is worth discussing sections and what this entails. I had an emergency section after being inducted and waters broken artificially after 36hrs due to lack of variable heart rate and reduced movements and it went fine and healthy baby. I hope everything goes okay tomorrow! Flowers

OhHolyNightWaking · 27/12/2019 10:28

Good luck OP. I hope all goes well for you and baby tomorrow!

SirVixofVixHall · 27/12/2019 16:13

A calm, planned c-section, even if it has only been planned a short time before, is always going to be better than an emergency with a baby in distress. I think they should at least be giving you this option now, or talking to you about what might necessitate a section once you are in labour.
I very much wanted natural deliveries, and I was upset about my first c section, but in your place, where you have been given no possible explanation for your baby’s lack of movement, I would think of asking for a c-section now. Induction often ends in a caesarean, and can be stressful for the baby as the contractions can be strong very quickly.

shutupsteph · 27/12/2019 16:47

Just read the whole thread, it sounds so stressful for you and I'm angry you didn't get any answers. I really hope tomorrow goes well for you 🤞🏻

Tini17 · 27/12/2019 17:33

Just read the thread.
I second trying to ask about a section threshold, even if it is tomorrow when you go in so you have an idea. (To be fair, I’ve had two inductions and it was always discussed when I went in so you may not need to ask).
Fingers crossed for you and baby tomorrow x

Shookethtothecore · 27/12/2019 17:38

Good luck ❤️

flounderfish · 27/12/2019 17:40

Hope all goes well OP

atankofskunks · 27/12/2019 17:44

I agree that in your shoes I'd push for a c section OP.

KyraK · 30/12/2019 07:37

Hi everyone,

At 3.27pm yesterday I had a gorgeous little boy weighing 7lbs2oz. I want 38+1 weeks. He was born 12 hours after they broke my waters, so even though it was a long time compared to my usual deliveries, it was quicker than I expected. He popped out in a few pushes!

He is very relaxed and super calm; so we are all hoping that was the reason for his lack of movements. We are having to stay until Wednesday as I’ve got a high temperature, so both of us are having antibiotics twice a day.

Thank you for all well wishes throughout the past few weeks, it’s really kept us going xx
