Just that really... first time Mum and having an elective. I’m DESPERATE to get my hair done. I know it’s impossible to discuss my recovery now but wondered if others felt well enough for a trip to hairdressers within 2 week? X

I would get it done before your section if possible, however I’ve had a section before and would say after a week you would be ok, provided you can get to the hairdressers easily and can arrange childcare. I wouldn’t be catching public transport or walking more than 5 minutes at that stage.

Deffo get it done before you have the baby...

IdblowJonSnow · 08/12/2019 20:57

I'd go for before. I'd have been ok in 2nd week and combination fed at that point but if you're gone for a few hours and breastfeeding could be tricky?
Also might be uncomfortable for you to lean back for them to wash your hair?
Definitely get it done before if you can.

Definitely go before so you can sit upright, awake, doing nothing for more than about 25 seconds at a time.

I thought so! Thanks everyone... I think I’ll wait until the New Year as can’t get in anytime this week. It’s just so hard to envisage what life will be like in a few days 😂 ... x

Well I was eating out at a restaurant the day after I came out of the hospital with my baby - he was four days old (section at 37 weeks). I was desperate to get out after being in hospital a few days. First time breastfeeding in public but no issue.
You may feel up for it or not want to go out your house for a couple weeks - you never know.

LittleTopic · 08/12/2019 21:06

Have it done before.

I had an EMCS and, whilst I felt OK two weeks in, I definitely wouldn’t have been comfortable on a hairdresser’s chair!

It’s not so much the c-section (you’ll be mobile in under a week). It’s the two week old baby who will need constant attention. I’m not sure I even managed to pop to the shops alone until about a month in, and DH was working from home so it wasn’t lack of childcare, more that it was hard for me to leave him.

It’s possible - if you’re planning to formula feed upfront, if you have somebody reliable to do childcare for a few hours (will your DH be back at work), if you’re getting enough sleep at night, and if you are less emotional than I was at that stage, fine. But the likelihood is you’ll just want to stay on the sofa.

@Pipandmum- See I also know I’ll be itching to get out the house, but appreciate it’s easy to say that now having not had the baby yet!! I think with it being Xmas as well... I love to have a stroll anyway that time of year and the thought of being in the house for weeks on end just is rubbish! I guess only time will tell.. thanks for all your responses 😚
