Hi to all
I'm 41 weeks pregnant tommorow. They have me booked in for induction in 6 days which will bring me to nearly 42 weeks then. Can I request induction early or not. I dont like the thought of been left 12 days over.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Is all well?
Normal movements?

CloudyVanilla · 08/12/2019 19:55

If you are worried about going over I would going in regarding movement, and I would enquire about a sweep.

In my last pregnancy I was also concerned about going that far over and expressed this, I had a couple of risk factors though (polyhydramnios and a couple of periods of reduced movements) so they agreed with my about not wanting to go far overdue.

It definitely would be worth communicating your concerns - I was offered a sweep then and there at 39 weeks once i expressed mine and then when I was still concerned about movements I was monitored daily until I was induced at a couple of days over 40 weeks.

You may have a tough time though if you have absolutely no risk factors and are not concerned at all about movement. But FWIW, every time my baby was monitored he was perfectly healthy, they just still took my concerns on board which I did appreciate and perhaps it would be the same for you :)

So I've Crohn's disease and I was under a consultant and she discharged me about a month ago saying all was fine. This is my second baby and I went 11 days with my first also. Was booked into be induced but went myself the night before.
I just don't like the thought again of been left so long over again. I've seen no midwife since I was 39 weeks as I was told there was no appointments left and to ring community midwife. Did so and they finally had appointment this week which is nearly two weeks later. Now I'll be 41 tommorow and thinking of asking to be brought in earlier than at 42 weeks! Was also told on phone to call in the morning of induction and if no beds I might be left until the next day. Found it quite rude and just to be left. I know there busy but I found it like what???

Normal movement OP

Curran22 · 08/12/2019 20:10

Yes moving enough I think.

Yes unfortunately the whole pushing back inductions due to a lack of beds seems quite common :( I was told it was a no go when I phoned the morning I was told to and had to be kind of insistent - but as i was being induced for reduced movements they had no choice but to take me that afternoon. It does seem like they will do what they can to avoid being over booked though which although I understand, is frustrating when you are expecting to be taken in!

The only thing I can suggest at this point is to flag any reduced movements you may have, if I remember rightly if you have so many episodes towards the end the may look to induce ASAP, but then again they may feel your already booked induction is sufficient :(

Sorry OP, at least either way you are so close now! I'm 35 weeks and wish I could just sleep until 40, I sympathise with you Flowers

I went 15 days over. They point blank refused to induce me any earlier, even though I was having contractions for 3 days and was totally exhausted by the time they induced me.

Weirdly, my mum had a similar experience with all 3 or her children and went 2 weeks minimum over with all of us. I think we just have a longer than average gestation period.

I’m now pregnant with no. 2 and have already added 2 weeks onto my EDD!

Curran22 · 08/12/2019 20:17

Oh no🙈! The thought of them telling me that there's no beds. Of course there will be none. I would go to another hospital if they were to leave me 15days. That's way to long. Sometimes you just have to kick up a fuss. Will see midwife this week but she will prob say the same thing. Like doesn't the placenta start failing past 40 weeks anyway! Oh let's just see what this week brings.

I think I would be going in quoting the articles from recently suggesting the huge uptick in risk related to gestation beyond 41 weeks and explaining your associated anxiety. I can't recall exactly how the study was described, but if I had another one now, I would not allow a pregnancy to go beyond 41 complete weeks.

GetRid · 08/12/2019 20:21

Sympathy with you op. Are you seeing the midwife this week? Definitely ask her for a sweep and it can't hurt to also ask about induction being brought forward

Curran22 · 08/12/2019 20:41

Seeing midwife on tuesday so will see what she says. I know what the outcome will be though. Yes I agree with that also. Don't think it should be left go by 42 weeks. Fingers crossed✌️

If you make it to the induction date and there's then no beds I would request a monitoring session to check on baby and every day after that they keep you waiting. How old are you? I believe if you're over 40 they don't like leaving you to go that far over.

GrumpyHoonMain · 08/12/2019 22:48

My baby’s placenta started failing on the day my induction was booked (40 weeks and even though I have conditions that make stillbirth likely I had to really push hard for it). I have always been grateful that I pushed for the intervention because the baby was moving fine right up until it wasn’t - it probably saved its life.

So my advice is ask for the induction to be pushed up. Do whatever it takes - most hospital labour wards take maternal anxiety very seriously so may be useful to play the I’m so worried I can’t sleep / eat card. As you are already in the induction book you may find yourself bumped up

Rubyroost · 08/12/2019 22:54

I insisted on an induction when I went over and was 10 days over when induction started. Baby arrived 42 weeks exactly. Insist you want to be induced earlier, you can only try. Good luck x
