Hospital bag - what size?

Sorry - maybe a daft question but what size bag should I pack?

Are we talking holdall? Carry on wheelie case or bigger?

Also what size for the baby? Do I just take his changing bag or should I take a backpack?

Thanks

Currently packing....

I've got a big hold-all for me, a changing bag for the baby, and DH will take a rucksack with his bits, my phone, snacks ect

Im dithering about whether to take a pillow and towel, if so I'll take another big bag for them.

I'm not sure whether shoving everything in a single suitcase would be easier. I hope not as my big wheely bag is full of clothes I don't currently fit, and I can't be bothered to unpack it!

I took two backpacks when I had DS2 a couple of months ago - one for me, one for baby and DH. Didn't bother with a pillow but did take a towel. With DS1 I took waaay too much stuff that I didn't end up wanting or using and didn't take enough of the stuff I needed! Make sure you take plenty of maternity pads, a decent number of pants (even if you are discharged quickly, better safe than sorry) and clothes that are easy to nurse in if you are going to breastfeed.

i'm taking cabin size case for me, holdall for bump. (husband taking backpack)

I took a wheelie case for myself and baby, and let DH pack himself a back pack Smile

Was glad I didn't take too much as was moved a few times and DH obviously had to bring it all with us each time.

A small suitcase on wheels for mine and babies stuff. Might use changing bag for charger phone etc but that's it. Dont need alot so shouldn't need several bags. If you wanted to have separate bags I'd just get small holdall type one.

I've got a small holdall for me and a backpack for baby, neither are full but couldn't get it all in the holdall. I didn't want to buy another bag just so it fit and the bigger ones I already had were too big.

Baby #1 i took a small suitcase.
Baby #2 i took a duffel bag.
Now due on 21st with baby #3 and packed a backpack which has all mine and babys things in. I think after a couple babys i realise u dont need or use half the things you pack. Also i live 15mins from the hospital so if i needed to stay in it would be easy for someone to bring extra things up to me. X

I've got a cabin case for mine and baby's stuff. And a bag for nappies as bulky,. Formula and snacks.
Our hospital only like it to be one small bag. I took this last time and they were OK with it.

(so ours havent been ready either time but those are different stories!)

Our plan last time was to use this company www.birthbags.co.uk/ - we got the holdall which was to be for all things that would be used during labour and first 24 hours. We were to separate inside the bag using smaller bags; my labouring things, my initial post labouring things, baby's initial post birth things.

Of course snacks and drinks were to have their own bag which would also have DH's things in too.

Then in the boot of the car we were going to keep another holdall which will have enough supplied for 5 days worth of clothes / nappies / pads etc in case I needed a longer stay again

So I guess we had 2 holdalls and a snack bag (rucksack) in total but the 2nd holdall we were hoping wouldnt be needed.

Small holdall for me and baby.

If I stay longer dh can bring stuff in.

I'm currently preparing my bags. Don't live in UK and standard procedure here is for mum and baby to stay in hospital 4 or 5 days after birth. Hospital gave us a huge list of stuff to take. So far I have packed baby's bags - a changing bag was big enough for delivery room then a holdall for the hospital stay. Doing my bags today but I think it's going to have to be a backpack for delivery room (hopefully a shared one for hubby and I) and a cabin suitcase for hospital stay. Seems a crazy amount of stuff for us to be lugging to the hospital when in labour.
