14 weeks and still useless!

I'm 14 weeks and had sort of expected to be feeling more human by now... I am so unbelievably thrilled to be pregnant, but still feel like an invalid!

I'm still being sick at least once a day and feeling queasy for the majority of the time, can only keep down bland food like buttered toast. Getting through a day at work (teaching) is a slog.

I'm also still constantly knackered and would nap if I could despite falling asleep early.

Is this all normal? All the literature etc had me expecting to glow with vitality after 12 weeks but I am as sluggish and nauseous as ever! Am worried about baby not getting good nutrition too.

I really want to be a healthy pregnancy goddess eating vegetables and going for daily brisk healthful walks Grin any advice?

Quite normal. I’m not really sure why the 12 week thing is so widely stated. Hormones do start dropping at 12 weeks but actually don’t tend to level off until 14/16 weeks if you actually look the stats! Nearly everyone I know suffered until 14 weeks at the earliest feeling like crap! I’m a HG sufferer, both pregnancies I’ve found from 16 weeks onwards things are a little better and by 20 weeks, I can function relatively normally. That said, I feel pretty rough my entire pregnancies. But I’m unlucky.

Hopefully the turning point is just around the corner for you! Worth getting your bloods checked if you start to feel really exhausted, anaemia is common in pregnancy & easily treated. Otherwise, just listen to your body & take it easy Smile

Don’t worry about nutrition, my first pregnancy, I lived off potato, toast & spaghetti hoops for the first 20 weeks. My daughter was completely fine & is hitting & exceeding her milestones as a crazy toddler! I did zero exercise as even walks would make me throw up but I was back to good fitness within 8 months of birth (and I’d lost all the weight). I used to stick on an audiobook & do long, quick paced walks with the pram 3/4 times a week. Eventually, I felt strong enough to get back into some proper cardio/weights!

Oh that is really reassuring thank you! Your pregnancy diet seems similar to mine Grin
They've taken bloods at all my midwife appointments so assuming those get checked? But I will ask about iron levels at my 16 week check as I've been anaemic in my teens a few times.

Oh it's so tough isn't it. You sound very similar to how I was in my first pregnancy, I was so upset at 12 weeks as I really believed I'd feel better but didn't, then again at 16 weeks the same thing happened and I was completely gutted. I did improve around 18-20 weeks though and whilst I was very unlucky and felt a bit crap right till the end I was able to function much better from 20 weeks, and even better after 30 weeks. I'm currently almost 11 weeks and feeling pretty bad still, but this time I've been to my GP and have had 2 types of meds, the ones I have now are really helping, but I also think it's helpful to have realistic expectations (I'm pretty sure at 12 weeks I'll still feel terrible!).

I hope you see some improvement soon, it's really tough xx

Omg @daydreamdaisy I’m so glad you posted. Just logged in to write an “is this normal” post!
I’m 15 weeks today and I’m sat here this evening having taken an anti sickness tablet and my eyes sting I’m so tired even though I slept well!
I was expecting to start blooming hahah ahahaha how wrong I was. So glad I’m not alone even if we are together miserable lol!

I'm really sorry to say this but my nausea and throwing up once a day lasted until I was 31 weeks. And even then I still felt sick every day, just not constantly. The tiredness did wear off but came back badly once I hit 34 weeks.

It's awful but don't hold yourself to a high standard. I was thrilled to be pregnant too and wanted a healthy pregnancy but the midwives just said as long as I was eating it wouldn't really make any difference as the baby would get all it needs, they're like little vampires who suck up nutrients.

I took vitamins throughout (pregnacare) but once I realised it was only important to eat whenever and whatever I could it was a lot easier. DS is about to be one and is doing well. The things I ate really didn't matter in the end!

With both my pregnancies I’ve started feeling better at 16 weeks; I think that can be the case for a lot of people so don’t worry you’ll feel better soon

I'm 15 weeks today and feel like I'm slowly turning a corner. I'm only sick every 3 days now, fingers crossed I can beat my record this week!
