12 week scan anxiety

Hi, I have my 12 week scan tomorrow morning, I will be 12+2 and I'm so nervous! I'm nervous about the outcome and also about what happens during the scan/appointment. On my letter it says it will take about an hour, what do they do in this hour? Smile

I have already had two scans privately, one at 6 weeks and one at 9+4 weeks and both were fine! Does this increase my chance of things being okay tomorrow? I don't think I've ever been so nervous about something in my life!

Mine was literally just a scan. I had to then to go back in the waiting area while the sonographer did the report and worked out my due date abd then I was free to go.

However, we chose to have the testing for chromosome abnormalities which is done on the same day so I then went to a different department for a blood test and that was it.

I was also very anxious prior to the 12 week scan. I think it’s natural as we so desperately want it all to be fine. Try not to worry too much.

@chocolate26 mines tomorrow too - I’ll be 11+4. I’ve had a couple of early scans for bleeding which has fortunately stopped now. The last one was 9+1 and everything was absolutely fine. I keep swinging between feeling anxious something will be wrong and feeling excited to see how much our bean has grown. I’m so pleased it’s at 8am so I won’t be thinking about it all day.

Totally normal to be nervous, I had a lot of scans and was nervous each time. We had a scan that they took measurements to work out EDD. I then also had bloods taken for the combined screening. Tbh I have bad veins so that wasn't great.

Normal to be nervous.
With my 12 week scan they took measurements of baby's head, arms, legs etc. They also checked for organs. Where the placenta was positioned.
It takes an hour because of all the measurements and also if baby isn't in the right position like my DS then tell you to go for a walk around and come back. My DS kept bobbing away in the end had an internal scan to get better measurements as DS wasn't playing ball 😂

Hope everything goes well tomorrow! :)

Being nervous is normal, I was on the verge of tears the morning of my 12 week scan.
Good luck!

Thank you everyone Smile I'm so glad my scan is early so I don't have to wait all day! I will update you tomorrow.

what do they do in this hour?

Mostly, keep you in the waiting room. Take something to read. If baby is in an awkward position you might be sent to drink a bit more water/have a bit of a wee/walk around. The time taken to do the measurements etc is pretty short.

They'll also check your blood pressure while you're there and take bloods if you consent to combined screening.

I allowed a (supervised) student to have a go at scanning me. In the end the supervisor took over but they let me have scan pictures for free as a thank you Smile

I cried on the morning of my 12w scan. It was fine. We went for tea and cake after.

@chocolate26 my scan is tomorrow too and I feel the same way. I've not had any scan yet so I have no idea how things are progressing. I will be 12+6 so fingers crossed all is ok. I'm nervous too. I wish you luck Smile x

@Betsyboo87 sorry to hijack this thread but I'm 6+3 and I'm bleeding, I've had a scan already and I've been asked to go back 13/12/19 for another scan. Do you mind if I ask when you stopped bleeding?

This may be a little tmi but my blood is "fresh" blood, like actually red. It's lighter than it was now and I don't need a pad but it's still there when I go to the loo.

It's my first pregnancy and it's just got me on edge!

Betsyboo87 · 08/12/2019 21:01

@summershine2204 mine was everyday from just after my bfp at 4 weeks and it stopped bang on 8 weeks. It was mainly brown but I had a few instances of red. I used liners but it wasn’t enough to need a pad. Never found a reason for it but the Drs never seemed that bothered. Good luck for your scan, i know it’s such an anxious time but it does get easier.

ThinkPink71 · 08/12/2019 21:06

@chocolate26

Congratulations :)

My 12 week scan consisted of the scan & taking blood for the Down Syndrome testing.

Try keep calm...although I was nervous!! Luckily the midwifes dont leave you waiting long...they are only scanning your belly for a few seconds before you are told everything is fine :)

chocolate26 · 09/12/2019 14:40

Just to update you, my scan went really well! It was amazing to see it moving around Smile it's moments like today that make all the sickness worth it!

Excellent news @chocolate26! Hope you’re feeling relieved now.

I’ve got mine on Thursday and trying to remember from previously if you’re meant to go with a full bladder for this one or not? I didn’t get any info about the scan, midwife just booked it in when I was there for booking in appt?
