Viability Scan at 8 wks when overweight

I have found out I am 6 weeks pregnant, due end of July and booked a Viability scan for when I hit 8wks. However, I am quite overweight and am very concerned that they won't be able to see anything and I will leave the early scan with no reassurance and more anxious.

Has anyone got any experience with early scans when overweight please?

Thanks in advance

They'll do an internal scan if they can see anything. It's fine and more accurate that early.

You'll have an abdominal and then a transvaginal likely. Transvaginal can be more accurate and personally I'd rather the transvaginal as you don't need to be absolutely bursting for a pee!

I had abdominal scans at 8 weeks,
with no problem. But they told me they’d just do an internal if they needed to.

I was nervous about this as high BMI. They could t see anything much on the abdominal scan at 7 weeks (NHS sporting scare) but saw what we needed on a transvaginal scan. At 9 weeks we went private and she could see something on the abdo but again much clearer on vaginal. By 12 weeks they could see what they needed via abdo :)

Vaginal is not horrid, in my head it was going to be! They always asked me to go pee (hooray!) and then used a wand which they put a condom over and plenty of lube. Not uncomfortable at all, always managed to retain most dignity and saw a lovely image both times :)

Good luck with the pregnancy

I am very overweight, they could see something abdominally but used an internal scan to get a clearer picture, was not drama at all and we got to see a lovely wee heartbeat. He's 2 weeks old now.
