WAKING UP IN POOL OF SWEAT!!

I keep waking up every night in a pool of sweat, feeling breathless and very, very thirsty! It has been chilly the past few nights and we even have the window open, but it doesn't seem to making any difference. I am 28 weeks pregnant, looks like another big baby, my first was quite large but I didn't suffer from this first time around. Any ideas anyone?

loopyredangel · 22/08/2007 16:06

LOL! Nope, wish I had! I know, it's horrible! MAybe not quite pools of sweat but I am soaking my tshirt!

I would discuss it with your midwife

and drink a lot!

Luckily I see my midwife tomorrow, and I drink plenty of fluids.

I have had this as well quite often with this pg. It's very unpleasant! I also had it when I was breastfeeding ds for at least a couple of months. I think it's just hormones, but probably best to mention it to m/w if you have other symptoms. Breathlessness can be a sign of anaemia whilst excess thirst can be a sign of diabetes although probably only due to the water you're losing over night.

Thanks for the advice, I have a big beaker of water by my bed, I often wake through the night because of my back and pelvis, so always have a drink when I wake up.

lol yep that happens

Well I went to see my midwife yesterday, and they plan to check my thyroid levels. They also measured my tummy, and I am measuring 2 weeks bigger, so they plan to check for diabetes too!

I'll watch this thread so please do update it when you get your results as I would be interesting in knowing, given I have the same thing...

loopyredangel · 24/08/2007 11:52

okay will do, have tests on Tuesday, so will probably be a week or so after that before I get the results x

Glad you got diagnosed with anaemia. The tablets they put me on have made a world of difference...

loopyredangel · 28/08/2007 21:20

Found out my results today, good news is I am not diabetic, but my haemaglobin levels are down to 10.4, so iron tablets here we come, oh the joy. Just recovering from a bout of piles, if they had not made me bleed like a pig I would never have found out about the anaemia!!!

That's interesting. I am anaemic with this pg as well, so perhaps that's the cause of the night-sweats. Pleased to hear that you have a "diagnosis" - at least they can give you something to help...

loopyredangel · 07/09/2007 22:11

Mumpbump, did you have any problems taking your iron tablets, like tummy cramps and constipation? A bit personal I know, but the last time I had iron tablets I suffered badly - the pain was worse than labour pains! Any hints and tips on taking iron tablets welcome!

No - the folic acid/iron combination I had didn't affect my tummy, but I always eat allbran with special K and muesli for breakfast so that probably helps keep everything moving anyway. Add some honey to it and it's really quite nice... HTH>
