What do I need for a January baby?

My previous DC was summer-born so I feel a bit clueless this time round! No issues in terms of sleepsuits and vests, but I realised today that baby is going to need extra cardigans beyond what we have as well as some warmer gear.

Does baby need a snowsuit? Or is a coat better? Or should we just layer up with cardigans and blankets? We will have a star wrap for the car, but don’t want him to either be cold or overheat.

What did you have for your January baby?

Tenacity. Us Capricorns are stubborn. Also the wisdom to buy separate birthday and Christmas presents, all to be presented at the appropriate time. This is Very Important.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Congratulations! But the birthday/Christmas thing

DD was due Jan, born Feb. I'd recommend a snow suit and long sleeved sleep suits underneath as a basic outfit, changing to short sleeved/legless sleepsuits if it's a warm spring. And don't forget a hat and gloves!

I'd also recommend buying for this time next year in the January sales, things like jumpers and trousers and coats, plus Christmas outfits if you see any you like. Smile

Aside from clothes, we found a thermometer for our room was really helpful. We have one of those egg things that goes blue if it's really cold.

Never thought about mitts! What a muppet!

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett, my DM has a birthday this time of year on a Significant Day so I have been well-trained to wrap birthday presents in birthday paper and remember that a birthday cake is quite separate from a Christmas cake.Grin

Definitely a snowsuit. Cardigans, hat and a fleece buggy liner. Decent gloves for you as hands get so cold pushing the buggy.

Good tip re decent gloves for me! We have a fleece cocoon type thing rather than a carrycot (we have a lie-flat pushchair) so should be sorted.

Thanks again - this is helpful!

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett absolutely this! My 6yo DD is early January.

They spend a lot of time indoors but definitely a snowsuit for buggy walks, possibly one of those warm covers for the baby sling or a babywearing coat for you. A cup holder for the buggy so you can have a hot drink on the go!

Gro bags so that they don't get cold for night feeds, plenty of accessible layers for you for the same reason.

Winter babies are great, you can properly hibernate and enjoy all the cuddles! I have a summer born too, and much preferred giving birth in winter.

Socks to go on under the sleepsuits to keep feet warm and lots of blankets and hats for when you go out
