Induction- with a ballon?

I've been booked for an induction next week. The hospital I am delivering in use the ballon technique? The midwife explained it's a small balloon which goes into the cervix and expands and is supposed to be less painful than a drip induction.

Does anyone have any positive experience with this? A quick google search didn't fill me with confidence, many said it didn't work and was painful. Fingers crossed little badfurday arrives naturally!

I had it and it worked well! Had you had csection previously? I was having a Vbac and as it’s non hormonal it’s meant to be safer. It was fine - obviously uncomfortable to have fitted but not painful (they gave me gas and air). Mine actually fell out after a few hours as it worked so well and I was dilated enough and my contractions had started. From when it fell out to baby arriving was about 5 hours! Honestly I don’t know why they don’t do it for more people as from my perspective it was a huge success! Feel free to ask any questions.

I had it. Second pregnancy ( first induced via hormones ). I found the balloon fine. Insertion and inflating was slightly uncomfortable but less so that ( the many ) sweeps I've had. It was good as I was sent home after I'd had it done rather than being sat around the hospital like with the hormones. I started getting mild contractions after about an hour and it fell out around 5 hours later.
The only thing that worried me was the lack of information and that when I went to have it done one of the mid wives had to be talked through it, as it's a two man job, as she's nevwr done it before m she also didn't seem aware of it.

Thanks both. This is my second, first was very straightforward natural birth, I was incredibly lucky in terms of a short labour and out the same day.

The midwife explained that this is a fairly new way of doing inductions for the hospital I'm delivering at, only started doing them in January this year. I've been booked for 10pm in the hope I can sleep through most of it? I'm guessing I'll be on a ward though so not sure how much sleep I'll get. Still hoping little one will appear sooner!

I had mine at about lunch time and went home, was told to call if it fell out so I could come in or wait 24 hrs then come back for the hormones etc. I'm assuming as its new different hospitals have different policies.

Best wishes for a safe delivery x
