Hi

Im sure this has been brought up before but i just don't get it. I've googled it and my pea sized brain can't work it out! Wish there was a simple calculator that could help you work out the take home SMP after tax and NI. Can anyone help work it out, as i am panicking im not going to be able to afford my mortgage and car when baby is born. I'm not with the father but he would be in the picture and i dont qualify for benefits! Sad

So baby is due 31st May 2020.
Tax Code 1244L
Monthly Pay £3029.17 before deductions, £2492 after deductions.
Roughly works out at £757 per week, £623 per week after deductions.

Based on the above how on earth do i calculate take home SMP, also note it will be 1 month into the new tax year.

Help!!! Thank YOU

www.gov.uk/maternity-paternity-calculator/y
Calculator here for SMP. To work out take home you'd need to check pension deductions or any other deductions from your pay.

As far as I can remember the first 6 weeks you get 90% of your earnings then after that it's either £148.68 per week or 90% of your weekly earnings whichever is less. Unless of course your company enhances the SMP. Mine doesnt so I just get £148.68 per week.
I think that is right from what I remember looking in to x

90% of the wage you have stated is £2726.25 so after tax etc I would imagine that's about £2148.65 (my maths is crap but think it's about that)

@mummy1214

Yeah i roughly calculated the 90% salary at that too.

Just still trying to figure out what the take home pay would be of the statutory pay of £148.68 per week based on my tax/ni rates and the fact its one month into the new financial year

maternity.money/
This has a calculator on it that you can personalise depending on your occupational and statutory pay entitlements.
