35 weeks. Reduced movements. Who do I call?

Sorry this is a really stupid question.

Do I ring my community midwife or the labour suite?

I've woken up this morning and have been feeling baby move, but he is much quieter today than usual. Normally he doesn't stop rolling around or moving from one side of my tummy to the other.

Is this something I should be worrying about or is it because maybe he has moved head down?

The movement I do feel is very soft and almost "weak" compared to usual. Usually I am constantly saying "wow baby is going crazy!" But haven't thought that at all today. The other thing is he moves so much usually that I can't even say there is a pattern to his movements.... so now I feel like I've really noticed the drop today.

Am I over reacting? I hate feeling like a nuisance. I'd hate to turn up and then baby start wiggling and making me look like a time waster!

This is my first pregnancy so I'm a bit clueless!

Thanks x

Yes good idea to just go in. I'm about an hour from hospital so did that once. Hope all is well.

Thank you all.

Finally got back through to labour suite as I was leaving my house and explained the situation.

They took my details and said they will pass on to the assessment unit and they might call me back but to make my way in.

They must be very busy today 😖 x

Glad you finally spoke to someone and hope all is well!

Labour suite wont normally deal with it it's the day assessment unit:) at our hospital you go to where you have the scans and consultant appointments etc x

Hi OP what's happening? Are you ok? I went in at 40 weeks with reduced movement and they did full monitoring. I hope that's the case for you too

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 04/12/2019 16:40

Hope that everything is ok for you. I had several episodes of reduced movements throughout my pregnancy, things were always fine but I was always told to contact them every time. Eventually I was booked in for a section for other reasons but they gave me a date bang on 39 weeks because of reduced movements. They offered to induce me at 38ish weeks but I opted for additional monitoring and waiting until 39.

Hi everyone.

So I've just got in. I got to the hospital around 2pm, I ended up being monitored on labour suite as our assessment unit was full until 17:30!

Baby's heart rate was fine - it did keep dipping occasionally but nothing that concerned anyone.

He was also moving lots but I just couldn't feel it at all, which they said is due to him now being head down and potentially kicking my placenta.

I'd had a bit of leakage in my pants that I mentioned, so they did and internal examination to check that my hind waters weren't leaking and also did some swabs as they said something about having quite thick discharge (sorry tmi!), and the examination made me bleed but again nothing they were concerned about.

I'm booked in for a scan tomorrow morning to check my placenta is still functioning correctly and I've just been told to monitor movements over night and if I'm
Worried about anything to ring back.

But since I've been home baby must have moved into a different position as he has NOT stopped moving and his movements are all back to normal like how they usually are, so feeling more relaxed!

@anonnancy you must be so relieved!

Hopefully you’ll get a decent sleep now (you need to get as many sleeps in now as you can! Ha) and then the extra scan tomorrow will confirm you’re all good!

anonnancy · 04/12/2019 19:51

@LLMD I feel 100% reassured and so glad I went in. The midwives were so nice and even though the internal examination wasn't pleasant the doctor was so lovely. I honestly feel so thankful for the NHS.

I am going to have a nice hot shower and have a nice early night tonight - hopefully I'll get a good sleep and baby doesn't decide to have a party!

It's so typical he hasn't stopped wiggling since I've been home, but so glad I can feel him and he seems back to normal now :)

Just read the whole thread, so pleased everything is ok. You did the right thing Smile

peachgreen · 04/12/2019 21:28

Brilliant OP, I'm so pleased! I once went in after DD hadn't moved at all for 4 hours, despite all the usual tricks. When they strapped the monitor to me she kicked it so hard it pinged off! They're little buggers sometimes Grin

anonnancy · 05/12/2019 09:11

Thank you all.

One of the midwives said I've done really well to get to 35 weeks and not have any other episodes of reduced movement as I have an anterior high placenta!

Just proves how active baby is on a normal day lol.

He is wiggling around this morning but think he's tired himself out now and having a little snooze. Got my scan at 11:30 - so hoping all is well with that too.

How was scan op.

anonnancy · 07/12/2019 17:56

@moodolph sorry for late reply - scan was fine, everything top notch! He was quite happy in there albeit a bit scrunched up!

He is weighing anywhere between 5lb11 and 6lb7 at the moment (36 weeks on Monday) so we'll see what he is when he's born!

He has returned back to his usual movements and has no been kicking me in the ribs for the past hour! Ouch!
