Reduced movements and induction

I’ve been in once for reduced movements to be hooked up to a monitor - at 33 weeks. All was fine but I was told to go back if I have any doubts at all, and I suspect I will be in again because my placenta position means it’s quite tricky to feel all the movements.
I was told that if I go in again I’ll be high risk - I already have group b strep so need antibiotics for delivery - but I’ve also read that if you go in for multiple reduced movements monitoring you’ll be induced and wondered if this has been true for anyone here?
Obviously it’s not going to affect my decision to go in if I do experience reduced movements again, I was just wondering if that would definitely lead to induction

I’m not 100% sure obviously as I’m going off of two people/two pregnancies in one area but I know 3 episodes of reduced movement with any other risk factor triggers a scan here. I had 3 but no additional risk factors so I wasn’t scanned. I was induced with pre eclampsia and df was scheduled c section at full term with 5 episodes of reduced movement (her uterus and placenta were put as probably the cause of her feeling less or no movement)

Thanks luna I wonder if GBS would be considered another risk factor

It might be, I’d ask your midwife what their policies are but don’t let it effect your choice on going in. Neither of us had GBS fortunately. Hopefully it’s smooth sailing from now. Even with an induction I’m pretty sure they try to keep you as close to full term as safely possible not just 3 strikes and your out.

I’m high risk this time and I’ve seen the consultant once, having a growth scan soon too but besides that it’s been very similar to low risk with ds.

Hi. I'm 39 weeks - I've been in for reduced movements 4 times, 2 of those times on the same day.

I also have an anterior placenta which means the baby can't always be felt.

The first two times were fairly straightforward (although they do sometimes struggle to find a heartbeat because of the placenta). The third time I went in the midwife wasn't great... She didn't really know what she was doing and didn't have great tact. She told me that if she was working in the midwife led unit she wouldn't take me so I should wave goodbye to wanting a water birth. I ended up going back again that evening having not felt any movements again (partly because I didn't trust the tests she had done, having been through it twice before and her admitting she didn't know how to use the machine!!) And ended up seeing another midwife, a sonographer, and a consultant that night. I asked all 3 wether this made me high risk and whether it would restrict my decisions when in labour.

In short, all three said no! They have found no reason for the reduced movements and have no concerns. They will obviously assess things on the day and can't promise anything but even the consultant said it could be my placenta affecting things and they wouldn't rule anything out.

I was so scared of going back that night and being induced (the midwife that day had said it was likely, but like you I didn't want that to cloud my decision to go back again) but they said unless you went in for reduced movements and there was a serious reason for the movements, you wouldn't be induced.

I hope that helps!! (I also got in a bit of a rant about my midwife which was very cathartic hahah!).

Good luck with the pregnancy X

Thank you for sharing! As far as I understand it GBS Is quite common and just means having antibiotics in labour but I will mention it when I see my midwife on Friday.
Sorry you had a bad experience with a midwife @India999 that must have made it even more stressful

Last pregnancy, I went 6 times for reduced movement. On my third trip, they referred me for a scan which I had and all was fine bar they thought she was enormous (my sonographer was dreadful, he basically admitted guessing where her stomach was as he couldn’t see it properly Hmm ). I went three more times & induction was never once mentioned .. I don’t know if I’m an unusual case but they never seemed worried. Probably as baby started going wild every blooming time they tightened the monitoring straps!

I was induced with my third because of IUGR but also had 3 episodes of reduced movements. Each time I went for reduced movements they will also scan to see placenta, cord and waters( probably because I was already suspected with IUGR). I had also strep B but never been mentioned as a reason for induction or high risk factor, other than I knew in labour needed to have antibiotics.
