Why are scans too far apart

For a first time mum, I would like a bit more reassurance. Last scan was at 12 weeks, then a midwife app at 16(no scans just routine blood test) and I have to wait to 20 weeks for the anomaly scan! I'm worried because I feel between 16 and 20 weeks is an important time for most people as some feel movement (I haven't yet and no bump). Is this normal to have no scan between 12 and 20 weeks? I feel fine but worry so much in case something has happened to the baby and I wouldn't know until 20 weeks.

It’s not about money.
It’s about recent studies showing potential neurological damage related to foetal ultrasound. They aren’t considered risk free. There is no clinical benefits to more frequent scans.
The current 12/20 week norms are at points where the benefits of having scans outweigh potential risk.

Unless you need a growth scan, you won’t have another scan at all after the 20 week one so you better get used to it Grin.

I paid for a private scan at 16 weeks with DS because my anxiety was so high following two missed miscarriages. It was about £40 I think, many ultrasound places have deals.

@CherryPavlova
I think I didn’t explain my last post very well. Because there is no clinical benefit to offering more scans than the 12 and 20 ones the NHS offers (unless there is a specific clinical indication for extra scans), it would be a waste of money if they did offer everyone more scans. But privately people do get more scans because the private companies are quite happy to take people’s money by giving extra clinically unnecessary scans as they can make more profit that way.

Such nasty responses on this thread!

I agree,it's MN, you don't come on here for support just to be attacked,who's be a worried FTM? Hmm

OP, really normal not to feel movement yet. It IS nerve wracking,I remember it well even from 20 years ago. Try and have a chat with your midwife.
