Has anyone else got the puffy face and double chin?

I’m 33 weeks pregnant and I swear my face has puffed up and grown a double chin over night. I look completely different and I have seven weeks to go (if I don’t go overdue!).
I feel hideous with it, it’s the one thing you can’t really disguise.

Yep!!! I was fine until around week 36. Happily I'm now on mat leave so no one but church and school folk will see me at my blobbiest😁

Bellasblankexpression · 28/11/2019 16:02

I’m genuinely worried I won’t have a neck left by 36 weeks 🙈

I’m wondering if it’s water retention

I'm 29 weeks and have a big fat pie face already. I'm dreading the puffy stage I'm going to look like one of those poor people who have a reaction to hair dye.

100% pie face here. Some people get the glam skinny pregnant gene and some people get the fat puffy walrus gene, it's luck of the draw!

Bellasblankexpression · 28/11/2019 16:50

I’ve definitely got the walrus gene!

Hi OP, just to say that facial swelling can be a sign of pre eclampsia. I would make. Intact with your midwife or MAU and have your BP checked just to be in the safe side.

justchecking1 · 28/11/2019 16:55

It might be worth just checking with your midwife. Occasionally sudden weight gain/swelling of the face/limbs can be due to pre-eclampsia. Have you any swelling in your ankles? Have you gained weight suddenly?

justchecking1 · 28/11/2019 16:55

Cross post! Definitely check

Just for info OP, PE can sneak up on you so I would always err on the side of caution when it comes to getting checked out.

Yes, me. Sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and think 🤦‍♀️ Christ, look at the state of yourself!!

Boymummy3 · 28/11/2019 17:16

I agree with others you should mention it to your midwife as it can be a sign of pre eclampsia which can just suddenly come on x

Thanks both, I saw my midwife and had blood pressure done two days ago and urine checks etc and all okay. I think it just looks really puffy to me, rather than actually being extremely puffy if that makes sense but I will keep an eye on it

Should have added that the puffiness was in full force when I saw her, it hasn’t suddenly sprung up since

Yep, Jabba the Hutt here (37w) - but I do also have preeclampsia so keep checking. My puffiness started several weeks before blood pressure followed up and protein appeared in my urine tests. Under control now but it could have been nasty. Please keep checking. One of the telling signs that swelling went above and beyond was when it went into my hands and when pitting edema appeared on my legs (that's when you press into your leg and it leaves an indentation that takes time to even out).

sarah30000 · 28/11/2019 17:51

I think mine MIGHT have been caused by all the cakes and chocolate I have been scoffing throughout. MAYBE.

JayDot500 · 28/11/2019 17:52

I actually saw my midwife today. Blood pressure is on the lower end of healthy (100/62) and I've no signs of PE. But I'm all puffed up around the face and neck. I could independently name each neck roll Grin. 9 days to go!
