Large fibroid and pregnancy

Hello, so long story short; I was under investigation for a large fibroid (15cm x 12cm) and was awaiting and MRI scan to determine its exact location so I could discuss treatment options. However whilst waiting for the MRI I discovered I was pregnant (now 6 weeks) and the scan had to be cancelled. I am due to see the consultant again on the 12th of Dec which will be the first time since finding out I am pregnant and I have lots of questions for her. But I just wondered if anyone on here had any experience of a large fibroid whilst being pregnant and did it cause any problems. As this is my first ever pregnancy, I find myself over analysing every twinge I get and dread going to the toilet incase I see blood, as I am worried about the fibroid affecting the baby or the pregnancy. I am aware at this stage the baby is only the size of a pip, and that people have multiple births so the womb is brilliant at expanding and making room, but my anxiety is still quite high, and I feel like I'm waiting for something to go wrong.
I am also under the early pregnancy unit as I had some bleeding after sex at 4 weeks, they did blood tests and repeated 48 hours after and my hormone levels more than doubled. I also had a scan but as it was so early they could only see the sac and egg yolk. I am due to have another scan on the 2nd which will hopefully show some growth and progression from the last one. So up to now I suppose everything is progressing as it should, but I still can't help but feel anxious.
Thanks for any advice or reassurance anyone can offer Smile

Hi,

I had a fibroid in one of my pregnancies, not as big as yours but big as the sac. It caused me pain and occasionally spotting. By 20 weeks scan we couldn't see it anymore so we assumed it shrinked. It's common for it to happen as baby grows and placenta will take all the blood supply possible round it, and also the space.

They're usually harmless but there are some risks on having one especially if bigger in size, but your doctor will look at the scan and tell you more.

Hope it goes all well!

I had a large fibroid that showed up in the 16 week scan (I didn't realise I was pregnant till then). It was in danger of bursting as the foetus grew so my gynaecologist advised me to have it surgically removed. This was done when I was about 20 weeks pregnant. I recovered quickly from the op and went on to have a normal pregnancy and healthy baby.

Hi,
Thankyou both for your replies, although you both have different experiences it's positive to hear that you both had healthy babies which is the main concern of mine. I just find it hard to not over analyse everything twinge I feel. I really want to enjoy my pregnancy as this is my first one, but it's hard when there's not a lot of concrete answers for me, especially as I am so early on.
I'm hoping I will relax more after the scan on Monday and seeing the consultant on the 12th. Smile
