I have recently split up with father of my unborn baby, I am wanting to double-barrel her surname. Do I put mine first or last for that to be her used surname?? For example for school, doctors etc...

I am still with my children's father but they have a double-barrelled surname because its what i wanted. Mine is also first because its what i wanted🙈 so do what you want x

I'm married but didn't change my name. My DC will have both mine and DHs surname (double barrelled). Mine will be first as it sounds better that way round but as it's a full name, not middle name and surname, both will be used officially for doctors, school, etc. E.g. Child Coffee-Carbs, not Child Carbs x

Whichever you want. Or just give her yours if you prefer.

Give her your surname.

Traditionally it is the woman's surname that comes first followed by the mans when double barrelling but people often just go with whatever sounds better

If you've split up, personally I'd be only giving the baby mine. You won't be able to change it in the future (should you wish) without his permission.

Do whichever sounds better and whatever you prefer but even with a double barralled surname both names will be used not just the last one so it doesn't really matter which way round you do it x

If you've split up I would give her just your own name. DD has both our surnames; Dp's is first purely because it come earlier in the alphabet and I've spent my life being last for everything!

If her name is double barrelled, then the double barrel will appear on school records, doctors etc. It’s her surname, same as a singular name. It might just be shortened if too long to fit on the form/document .. they won’t just choose one of the names. If you don’t want your ex’s name in her surname, don’t use it.

In terms of what to choose, pick what works best. Generally, the shorter name works better second in my opinion. For example Smith & Whittaker. Whittaker-Smith sounds way better to me than Smith-Whittaker. Flows better when said!

Thank you, I’ve been thinking of just using my surname but I feel awful. I have another daughter from a previous relationship and she is in my surname.. I think putting her in my surname only would be best. Just trying to keep the peace lol.
