Currently 6.5 weeks pg and as per my previous posts I have no experience and no-one to ask in real life about this. In my normal (non pregnant) life I eat super healthily all the time. No processed / refined foods or sugar, and tonnes of fresh veg, salads and fish. I've adapted my diet slightly for pg adding unrefined carbs like quinoa / wholewheat pasta etc, and have ensured the fish is not high in mercury. At the moment I'm not suffering actual morning sickness 🙏🏼 but I feel sort of bored of food and as if I have absolutely zero appetite. Today all I've had is a salad bowl for lunch but I'm really not hungry at all now and feeling a bit sickly at the thought of making dinner tonight - and especially fresh veg and fish 🤢 - my usual favourites!

Please can you reassure me this is normal, and please can you advise? I assume it's not good to skip meals but I can't face fresh veg or salad for some reason. What should I eat? Has anyone else had this?

Thank you x

I have completely gone off fresh fruit and veggies (Im 11 weeks today). I am forcing myself to eat them though. I have been craving carbs more than anything. Maybe you could take a break from exclusively super healthy food for the first few months until you feel better. I don't mean eat boxes of chocolate or anything, maybe some brown bread and cheese or wholewheat pasta. Get some food into you and it will make you feel less sickly.

Hope you feel better soon.

My baby is 6 months old when I was pregnant literally 4 weeks ish I got Nuro virus or however you spell it. I couldn’t eat or drink barely anything for a week couldn’t take any vitamins or anything I lived off McDonald’s sprite for about 4 days it was all I could manage. Saw a doctor purely because I was pregnant and they said as long as I wasn’t dehydrated it’s not an issue. Just eat and drink whatever you fancy little and often that’s all you can do

Don’t worry - just eat what you feel like. I’m on my second Hyperemesis pregnancy & for the first 16 weeks weeks of both pregnancies I ate no vegetables, no fruit, nothing remotely healthy. I literally ate white bread, crackers, cheerios, cheese & mash potato. Nothing else. My first child was a healthy, uncomplicated 8oz baby & is now a health, happy 2.5 year old. Second baby is cooking nicely, all looking well at 20 weeks despite a lack of anything nutritious! I just tried to keep down my multivitamin & now I’m feeling a bit better at 24 weeks, I’m getting some veg down me!

You don’t have to be a saint in pregnancy if you don’t feel like your normal foods. The first trimester is rough & you just need to eat what you can or what you feel like. You’ll most likely be back to your normal self by 12/14 weeks!

Thanks everyone, this has been really reassuring. I ended up eating a plain margarita pizza! Not like me at all! Feel guilty but I hear what you're saying. I just couldn't stomach anything vegetable wise and the plain stodge seemed what I needed. Blush

Thanks again xx

I lost my appetite in the first few weeks, completely went off the foods I normally eat. Ending up mainly eating toast, plain pasta, noodles. Just try and eat what you can, take multi vitamins and don't worry about it too much. I was feeling better as early as 10 weeks so if you are fortunate it won't last too long.
