How much more uncomfortable can this get ?

I recently had a fundal height measurement or whatever it's called. Everything was ok and I measured at the right 'height' for gestation. Around 31 weeks.

Eh so the uterus is literally so high up right now, it's completely freaking me out. Does it have to grow another 10 cms higher ? How can I breathe ? I don't have breathlessness right now but I'm so worried I'll feel completely closed off and won't be able to breathe soon. Is that what happens ?? I feel OK right now, but I can't imagine it growing any higher.

Any advice from mums who've been there ?

I have a weird anxiety thing about suffocating and not being able to catch a proper breath- is that's what's to come ?

No. You won't suffocate, but thou might feel like you've going up two flights of stairs when all you've done is get up off the sofa, occasionally... or something like that.

I can't say i noticed it all that much of I'm honest. I guess taking a big deep breath feels a little harder. But it's not uncomfortable. Your body adapts and you get used to it.

Others may experience it currently obvs.

Yeah I was almost at my ribs at about 20 weeks. I have a short body and am small generally. The bump still grew, I guess it grew outwards.. you don’t suffocate. If you have heartburn that might get worse. You might feel generally uncomfortable towards the end all the time.

CottonSock · 26/11/2019 15:43

I'm small too. And went to 42 weeks. Sorry it gets worse.

CottonSock · 26/11/2019 15:44

Sorry. Sounded dramatic, but you will be able the breathe. Just maybe not walk, or roll over. My experience was possibly on the worse end of normal.

OvalCanvas · 26/11/2019 15:49

Sorry , but you will most likely become more uncomfortable in the coming weeks op.

I'm a short asthmatic that has had 3 42 week pregnancies and I didn't suffocate , I had bloody horrible heartburn though.

Alarae · 26/11/2019 15:49

I'm just over 27 weeks and I've got to the uncomfortable part where the top bit of my bump tingles/goes numb and I'm itchy.

Couple that with the fact a single flight of stairs makes me breathless, the responses above saying it gets worse sucks.

I've not enjoyed being pregnant at all. I wish I was a seahorse.

Alarae · 26/11/2019 15:50

Oh and for some reason my hip will give way underneath me if I put weight on it in a particular way...

I find it really hard to believe some people actually enjoy being pregnant Sad

OvalCanvas · 26/11/2019 15:52

@Alarae I feel the same. I love being a parent , but I most certainly didn't 'glow' when I was pregnant.

Ninjakittysmellz · 26/11/2019 15:53

You won’t suffocate! I was tired, so unbelievably tired - and like others say, the heartburn was horrific by this point. It will be okay though, it doesn’t last forever and it’s like the slowly boiled frog analogy, you sort of get used to it in stages!

Tableclothing · 26/11/2019 15:54

Amen.

Another one for Team Seahorse. Smile

I had a pretty small, flat bump, and a decent sized baby - it didn’t grow outward in the later stages, it grew up and down but not out. I got rib flare where the ribs are pushed outward at the top end and SPD at the bottom end. I couldn’t bend in the middle at all - sitting just wasn’t doable. Lying down was difficult because laying on my back pressed on everything, and laying on my side hurt my hips. Walking was possible at a slow shuffle but it was painful.

Standing up was the most comfortable I could get, and I got used to standing, not moving. Car rides were ridiculous and I was definitely not able to drive, I couldn’t sit in a driving position and I couldn’t lift my feet quickly enough.

I figure at least maybe standing up for the last six weeks of my pregnancy might have helped with positioning, in the even I gave birth standing up as well. On the flip side, laying down on my bed after I’d given birth was actual heaven.

Sorry OP. I hope it is pain free for you and you can breathe.

Thanks ladies ! You have actually reassured me massively. I already can't walk up the stairs without nearly passing out 😂😂😂 EVERYTHING is this unbelievable effort. Like just sorting out some laundry and I need to have a break. I'm glad to hear that's normal and that potentially I'll still be able to breathe and my body will just get used to the uterus being up there.

What a crazy thing pregnancy is ! I agree with you, how does anyone enjoy being pregnant ??

I mean I do like the special treatment - people are just a bit nicer and considerate, but other than that.. it's really hard. I had no idea ! However I would take the aches and pains any day over the nausea I still have. That's definitely been the worst part of this entire pregnancy. The best to all of you lovely ladies.
