Hi ladies,

A bit of a silly question maybe but I rang GP today and got an appointment tomorrow about my pelvic and sciatic pain. The receptionist said 'it will be with a male doctor' and I didnt think much of it. However, after thinking about i didnt quite understand what she meant by 'male' doctor except for the fact that he is a different gender (I've always seen male doctors). Why would she tell me that? could this be because he will need to feel my pelvic or something? The thought of that makes me uncomfortable.I don't really knw what to expect seeing a doctor about pelvic pain. I've never had it during any of my previous pregnancies. Can anyone please share some experience

She was just telling you you'd be seeing a male doctor in case you would prefer to wait and see a female later on, which many women do. Don't read any more into it than that.

Good luck and I hope the doctor will be able to help you

If they need to do an internal examination they will probably offer you a chaperone. If not you can always ask for someone else to be present.

As pp has said probally just saying it incase you wanted a female doctor... Every gp is different but I went to gp In my Last pregnancy due to pelvic pain etc and all they could do was refer me to physio so I wouldn't really expect a massive outcome from your appointment. I may be wrong but it seems to be the only thing they can do for pregnant women. Oh and you won't need to have an internal for pelvic/sciatic pain x

There is a possibility they will have to do a rectal examination with sciatic back pain, depending on your symptoms. That's probably why they asked
