Did your midwife advise you?

I’m now on maternity leave and due on Saturday 30th Nov. I’ve read baby books and lots of advice on here but I was just going through my maternity notes and on the appointments page (where it has a list of the regularity of appointments and what will happen) my midwife hasn’t really done the things it lists (she has some of the time but not all).

Did your midwife advise you on feeding? Also anything about colostrum harvesting?
My bump hasn’t been measured by her for about 8 weeks but I did have a growth scan at 32 weeks so thought that was why. Also no bloods taken since mid-August.

Is this normal or should she have done these things?

Was normal for me. I found they were too busy to cover all it mentions in the book. Was no mention of feeding or harvesting etc. This didn’t bother me though - had I have had any queries or wanted to discuss anything I’m sure they would have assisted. I think I had bloods taken twice throughout. Once at the start and then maybe 28 weeks. I think the pregnancy book is the ‘go to’ For a lot of info. Goodluck with your labour!

@VapeVamp12 if you had growth scan they tent not to measure your bump. I never had that as I always had extra scans with all my pregnancies.

I also think they won't mention harvesting colostrum unless you have GD or your baby might need to stay in NICU.

Not sure about bloods, but maybe be the 28 weeks it's what I remember too being my last ones.

If you are not having regular growth scans then yes your bump should have been measured and plotted on your growth chart. That's fundamental really as it's an indicator of baby's growth. Bloods normally done at booking and 28 weeks only unless anaemic/have itching etc.
Feeding/colostrum harvesting/birth plans good to have discussed but sometimes other things crop up in appointments which take precedence. When is your next appointment?

Also where I live the antenatal classes run by the trust are recommended which cover feeding/birth plans etc

I think you should have had 28 week bloods done, and usually they measure the fundal height at each appointment. Also (in my area anyway) you are invited to attend a colostrum harvesting group.
I would definitely at least get the bloods done just to check you’re not anaemic etc

My midwife hasn't mentioned breastfeeding to me other than to ask what I'm planning to do and I had a growth scan at 36 weeks (standard in my area) but I still was measured each appt and put on the graph. No bloods taken since 20 week scan, I think.

Student midwife here.
Yes, they should have spoken to you about feeding options, especially if they're BFI accredited. I usually do this in the 36 birth plan appointment. We wouldn't normally speak to anyone about colostrum harvesting unless they asked, otherwise it's the midwives in clinic that would advise (as mentioned above GD, expected NICU etc).
In our trust, your bump is measured once it's been more than 2 weeks since your growth scan (unless you're having regular scans) this may vary by trust but I cannot imagine it's correct to go 8 weeks without being measured.
Bloods are done at booking, 12 week scan (if opting for downs, Edwards & pataus testing) and again at 28 weeks. Only after that if a concern has been raised that would warrant further blood tests.
