Pink/red jelly discharge

I'm just wondering if this is normal? I'm 18 weeks and just had discharge come out. It wasn't blood red but was pinkish/reddish colour.

Just getting a bit worried. I've called the midwife and she said just to keep an eye on it if it gets heavier and is accompanied by pain to get to the assessment unit.

Has anyone else had this?

Sounds like it might be a bit of plug. Not a problem if it is as your body will just replace it.

Girlanonymous Hi, hope you are well, so I don't want to worry you at all but please keep a close eye on this, I started loosing my mucus plug at 25 weeks with my previous pregnant and my son was born at 26+3 weeks, he is now a happy healthy 19 month old but it was a journey to get here. I think just for peace of mind get yourself to the emergency maternity unit for a quick check up, It could be nothing but if it is something there is a lot that can be done to stop any premature labour, don't mean to scare you but I'm just advising from my previous experience. Wishing you all the best, in the meantime try to relax and stay positive, it's worse when you worry yourself, I know it's easier said than done. Thanks

@Salina2 hi what other signs did you have?
I'm not 100% certain it was the mucus plug, but now getting a bit worried.

Pregnancy can be so anxiety inducing! If you are worried, please call the midwife again and just see what they say. I was sat in maternity assessment last night for a while and could hear them midwife taking phone calls and people were clearly ringing up for all sorts of things (many didn't sound pregnancy related e.g. pain in toe! ) so don't worry about bothering them. There is not much more you can do than follow the advice you are given. I hope it turns out to be nothing.

Salina2 · 25/11/2019 23:16

Girlanonymous please don't worry to much until you know what it is, it could be something totally normal and pregnancy related but I just wanted to make sure you have had it checked for your one peace of mind. My main symptoms was just having a lot of thick jelly like discharge for a week and then period like cramping, I lost my mucus plug. I would definitely call up the midwife again just to be on the safe side so you know what to do if symptoms change. How have you been today?

MidnightMystery · 25/11/2019 23:26

Have you got any aches or pains at all?
Sounds like some mucus plug, also could be cervical irritation mixed with mucus.

Try not to panic if you haven't got any pains it can be totally normal xx

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/11/2019 23:32

Sounds like the plug: mine came out early too but I am still 39 weeks lol. One thing it can do is make braxton hicks more painful - or it has in my experience. Do as your mw says and maybe wear a pad so you can monitor the flow more easily.

@girlanonymous I had something similar at 16 weeks. It was a one off, then just a bit on the toilet paper. I put it due to knowing I did quite a lot that day and was exhausted. If it would have continued to have discharge I would have phoned to get checked.

Follow your midwife advice, if you have some more or pain, do phone back and ask to be checked just to be on the safe side.

It could be related to having had sex, as everything softens and it's normal to have some discharge afterwards.

Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry thou.

girlanonymous · 26/11/2019 21:12

I've had mild cramping and discharge today, but more just light brown and on toilet paper. Not like what came out earlier.

I think I'm going to call the assessment unit and get checked out tomorrow. Regret not going in today.

I would assume it's a 24 hour assessment unit? I called and went in about midnight the other day. I think I'm just saying you don't need to leave it till tomorrow if you are worried - they are used to getting called on an evening/night. Perhaps call tonight and see what they say? Hope everything is okay.
