Reduced movements 35 weeks

Hi, 35 weeks and I have been in for reduced movements once a week for 3 weeks in a row. I last went in a couple of days ago and waiting for a scan, but I get so so worried when baby is not moving eg now. So dh just made some food which I ate and now baby is moving. Is it right that I have to eat to get baby to move when normally during this night time it would keep me awake.
It’s so difficult because every time I have gone in the ctg is fine and baby starts moving sooooo much. You start to then feel when it’s reduced like you’re questioning yourself is it in your head, should you go to come back and nothing wrong. Has anyone been in this situation? It’s just reduced slowly over a period of time now I feel, baby does move but just not as much as a couple of weeks ago.

So baby will have less room so may not have big movements but should of course still be moving. saying that they drum it into you that ANY change in movement should be checked out.. Sometimes they are just asleep/relaxing and food/drinks wake them up hence why they say if you don't feel them lay on your left and have something to drink/eat.
If you are worried then please don't hesitate to ring up and ask them what you should do even if you have just been in to get monitored they would much prefer you to get checked out and everything be fine than to just leave it and potentially something be wrong. X

Thanks, its moved more in the day thankfully. I did go in too. Still have the scan booked to tell us more which I’m glad about

Hey. What you are experiencing is pretty normal from my experience. When baby is in the last few weeks the space they have to move is restricted and they are also starting to prepare to engage. They often sleep allot during this time and tend to move in patterns.

Usually when your relaxed on your back or turn over onto your sides you may notice movements.

Baby has allot to prepare for in upcoming weeks. Still has allot of growing to do and needs its rest.

If you are worried try to stay calm. Drink some cold water or eat something hot. Have a warm bath or shower. Dance around or do some light exercise. Give your belly a massage and little jiggle and see if you get a response that way.

However If you try these and nothing works and you are worried then I would suggest you call the midwives. Keep an eye on your babys patterns and movements. When they move most and when they usually sleep.

In the last trimester it's very common for the movements to slow down gradually.

If all seems well just stay positive that your little one is fine, take the steps you need to to try and get baby moving and if you are extremely worried follow it up just to be sure.

I cannot believe some of this advice.

No they don't run out of room or slow down... changes I movements should always be checked out.

I really recommend reading up on this on Mama Academy and Count The Kicks websites.

Pannalash · 23/11/2019 17:25

Good advice @RandomMess

ruralcat · 23/11/2019 17:38

Ditto @RandomMess . I went through this with DC2, I used to be on trace for hours as she still didn't move, we also had scans where she didn't move. They were really great and put me on daily monitoring for the final weeks. There were other women in my position so it seems to be something that is fairly common but not normal.

TequilaMockingburd · 23/11/2019 18:38

Jeeezo! Baby movements don’t slow down and babies don’t run out of space.... these are old fashioned (DANGEROUS) urban myths! I can’t believe people still post this stuff!

OP if you feel the pattern of movement has changed, or slowed down then get it checked. If this means you are on that monitor twice a day... so what? As a previous poster said... they would rather see you and you feel reassured than have you feeling anxious and worried.

Jollymollyx · 23/11/2019 18:57

Thanks, I agree, the whole they slow down towards the end doesn’t sit right with me.
I’m not prepared to risk it. The ward has been good, they’ve asked me to come back tomorrow as scan won’t be until the weekend now. But if anything goes worse tonight I’ll go back in

Also agree with Random Mess

Tommy's (the stillbirth/loss/miscarriage charity) say movements do NOT slow down in later weeks and that movements should be quite consistent from 32weeks)

I would ring triage at your hospital and talk to somebody there. I'm sure they'd rather you come in if you're worried then miss a potential problem. X

This has reminded me of when I used to put a old can of drink on my bump when worried, usually worked (obv not a replacement for proper medical checks!)

imnotarunnerivetried · 23/11/2019 19:18

Cold not old!!

schafernaker · 23/11/2019 22:15

Go and get monitored. Any time of the day or night that you feel things aren’t right trust your instincts. DD was born at 34 weeks, I was induced as her reduced movements made the drs realise she had high pressure in her cord and wasn’t growing. Without going in she may not be here today ❤️

Twolittlebears · 23/11/2019 22:30

Please keep going back. I had this too and there was a problem with the cord. Luckily because I kept going back I was induced and my little one was ok. Definitely don't feel bad about getting checked everytime you have reduced movements.

snoopy18 · 23/11/2019 22:30

Yup as OP have said get checked as much as possible if you feel any change at all.

I was induced at 37 & 6 (had a great experience) due to reduce movement episodes. Even on the day itself I didn’t feel him move anywhere near as much during being induced and even through to labour and delivery so I’m glad he’s here and healthy!

Smarshian · 23/11/2019 22:33

As everyone has said above - monitor and get checked as regularly as you need.
At the very least it will reassure you.
It’s not worth the risk.

Jollymollyx · 25/11/2019 21:09

My scan showed that there has been a reduction of growth and the lady scanning also felt it wasn’t reacting much to the scan. She said you will wait for a doctor however a mw saw me who was sending me home, until I said hang on what about what was picked off the scan (she hadn’t actually read my scan notes). She then said she will book me in for another scan to keep an eye on things and to discuss it with the doctor at my next routine appointment. Feel quite stuck, it’s like everything is going south but I don’t feel I’m going to get the right help or plan until it gets really bad. Like as if they don’t piece signs together. Even with the ctgs it’s like a different mw every time who just looks at that instance rather than everything overall.

WhAt time was that?

If it’s still the same and baby pattern is still different - go back in again and be stern that you want to speak to a doctor / consultant that’s on shift.

RandomMess · 25/11/2019 22:26

Is your next scan tomorrow?

If you have any doubts please go back, had your baby been "back to normal" this evening?

snoopy18 · 26/11/2019 05:12

How are you getting on?

Jollymollyx · 26/11/2019 10:30

The movements are now consistent which is good. If I feel there’s another reduction I will go back. I have an appointment with the doctor in a few days and will be stern to get proper information and a plan.
