When did everyone go on maternity leave

Hi everyone I was just wondering how many weeks people were when they started their maternity leave. My maternity pay starts at 35 weeks but I leave a week before as I have holiday. Do you think this is too early. I’m in two minds about wether it’s too early as there is a chance I may be induced 3 weeks early
Thanks

Hiya,
I finished work a fortnight before my due date but Baby was 2 Weeks late, I then went on to be induced which was a long process.
So I was off work for a Month before in total, too long in my opinion- this time round I'm going to work longer, even by just a Week!

coffeeaddiction · 22/11/2019 06:55

Finished work at 38 weeks and baby came 39w6d , I would of been bored if I had longer and I would always recommend waiting it out unless your really struggling that way you will have longer with baby before you have to go back to work

Horehound · 22/11/2019 06:58

2 weeks before due date

Greggers2017 · 22/11/2019 07:03

Finished 1 week before due date all 3 times wanted more time with baby after. 1st was 12 days late, 2nd 4 days late and 3rd born on due date.

AuntieJuice · 22/11/2019 07:05

I'm finishing work today at 36+5, using annual leave before mat leave kicks in on due date. Very pleased with my decision as am KNACKERED.

Teachermaths · 22/11/2019 07:06

Finished at 35 weeks with first, way too early!

This time 38.5 if I make it!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 22/11/2019 07:13

I finished at 38 weeks but took annual leave until baby was born.

enchantedspleen · 22/11/2019 07:14

I'm planning on starting mat leave as late as possible, week before due date ideally. Want to be home as long as possible with the sproglet!

LoisLittsLover · 22/11/2019 07:16

35 weeks with dd1 and i was so so bored
38 weeks this time, about right i think

Namechanger23455 · 22/11/2019 07:20

1st I finished at 39+4 (planned too) went into labour the same day, he arrived the next.
2nd I’d planned to finish at 39+3, measured small so induction was then planned at 38 weeks. Had a sweep at 37+3 went back to work, that evening I went into labour. So
I maximised my maternity leave. I would have got bored waiting for the baby if I’d taken weeks off, personally I’d save it for when the baby came.
2nd time around I actually had a lot of complications but I preferred to be at work rather than at home getting bored!

pumpkinpie01 · 22/11/2019 07:21

I finished at 36 weeks each time so I had time with the other dc before baby.

PotteringAlong · 22/11/2019 07:22

37 weeks DC1
39 weeks DC2
39+5 DC3

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/11/2019 07:47

Mat leave from due date (40 weeks) but took my holiday before then.

crazycatbaby · 22/11/2019 07:55

Finished about 2 weeks before my due date last time, having a planned section this time and will be finishing at 37 weeks and hopefully having a section at 39 weeks

crazycatbaby · 22/11/2019 07:56

Forgot to add that I'm a hairdresser so stood up a lot, but will only be working 3-4 days a week until then.

Doormat247 · 22/11/2019 07:57

I'm planning to start maternity on the Monday as baby due on the Saturday. My manger is panicking already that I've left it too close.
I'll be taking 2 weeks annual leave at least before maternity leave but only because it's a use it or lose it situation.

It's my first baby so I have no idea when is the best time to finish. I suspect my first dates given are correct rather than the 20wk scan date - so I may be up to a week later than my official expecting date.

loveskaka · 22/11/2019 08:01

31 weeks had him at 33.5 so glad I did. X

rosina38 · 22/11/2019 08:04

I'm going to plan to finish a week before my due date. My husband and I are going to do 6 months leave each so I want as much time with my baby as possible. I'm pretty sure if I'm struggling I could change the date or take some annual leave

pinkpeoniesplease · 22/11/2019 08:04

I finished at 39 weeks with my first two, definitely didn't want to waste my leave before baby was born.
Now expecting my third and may go at 38 weeks this time to give me time with my other children before the baby arrives.

Due to the nature of my job it's common to reduce hours towards the end of pregnancy so I was doing slightly shorter days which made it easier.

LunaLovesgood · 22/11/2019 08:07

Last time I went at 36 weeks, she was born 3 days later. This time maternity kicks in at 36 weeks again but with a combination of Christmas and then holidays I actually finish work at 32 weeks Blush not complaining because I'm hoping to use those extra weeks to spend a bit of time with DD. I've not been able to pick her up from school before or do weekday play dates etc.

DiploCat1 · 22/11/2019 08:32

1st baby I didn't make it to my planned date (37 weeks) as she came at 35 weeks. This time I am finishing at 34 weeks, though taking 2 weeks of annual leave before formal matl. Would rather be bored at home than risk my waters breaking at work which is what happened last time!

MotherOfTheNoise · 22/11/2019 08:35

2 weeks before due date with the first as we were moving house. Wasn't working with the second and then the day before my due date the third time 😂

Angelika321 · 22/11/2019 08:36

I used my annual leave to time it so that my maternity leave started on my due date.

WhatHaveIFound · 22/11/2019 08:41

I've always been self employed so it's a bit different for me.

With DD i was working (home office) two days after my due date. She was born 5 days later.

DS was due at the beginning of Jan so I stopped working on the 15th Dec. I was actually a lot more tired second time around so those 3 weeks were a much needed break.

GingerRH · 22/11/2019 08:42

I'm planning on starting mat leave the day I give birth 😂 I've told my boss he'll be driving me to the hospital.

I only get sat mat pay so I'm planning on working as long as physically possible (I have an office based job) to maximise time spent once the baby arrives.
