So went for growth scan and Doppler, growth has picked up from last scan and my c section has been booked at 38+3 but due to Doppler been above 95% I need a repeat one in one week!
Does anyone have any experience with this as I had a quick read and it said they could be a sign or PE, still birth etc
If it's the same would I be booked in earlier? Wondering what to expect!

@ameliathomas84

I had this with my last pregnancy. Was picked up and then I had twice a week scans to monitor cord and waters. It didn't happen again until a few weeks lates, still just one time. I continued to have scan twice a week for this and every two weeks growth scan.

You'll be probably told just to keep a closer eye on movements, because the placenta might not be working properly if the PI continues to be high.

If they're concerned you might be offered and earlier C-section.

Hope it all goes well.

I was worried when it happened to me and did some research and found food that help your blood flow, and did consume as much as I could.

I had this. I had a section at 34 weeks because of it.

I had a lot of monitoring. The baby was very small but ok. We are a few years on now but it was such a worrying time.

@R2D2abc thanks for your reply! I've never heard of this before and there's not much on google (may be a good thing!) but from what I think it's too much flow? It's just annoying because they struggled at 32/34 weeks but never told doctor then today she said I think worth mentioning! I think I just have so many worries my anxiety is through the roof x

@eurochick they were concerned with her growth at last scan but then this scan showed ok growth! So I'm wondering if her growth is the same and ok if would bring it forward or keep monitoring I have steroid shots on 2/3 dec then another growth scan 5/12

@ameliathomas84 try to keep calm, it's important for you and baby. It's easier said than done. Just keep an eye on movements and don't be afraid to go in and get checked if baby moves less, it might be nothing but worth doing.
I went in a few times with reduced movements. Baby started not to grow so much so I was offered an induction at 37. Once out she was great. It just happens sometimes, but thankfully we can have good care nowadays.

I've had this for a couple of weeks now and am only 24 weeks :(
I'm having twins though and they're sharing a placenta. For a week (2 scans) the resistance was above 95th in one twin, and now that one is fine and it's changed to the other twin! There's even less info about this issue in twins.

Google is scary isn't it. I've tried to read some research papers but they often seem to contradict one another or are too complicated for me to understand

From what I gather:

  • It is a sign that the placenta isn't allowing enough blood/nutrient flow through to the baby (consultant said to think of a hosepipe when you squeeze it a bit and the resistance causes flow to slow down)
  • Often related to growth restriction (IUGR) due to this lack of blood/nutrients It may* predict pre-eclampsia so be extra vigilant and ask for extra checks
  • The main thing is that EDF (end-diastolic flow) remains present. If it's absent (AEDF) then it needs monitoring even more closely, and if it's reversed (REDF) then that is when they start taking about imminent delivery.

Is your baby very active? At every scan I get comments on how unusually active my twins are, and apparently this can cause issues with the Doppler readings and make them seem higher than they are.

I haven't been told this by any medical professionals, but I've seen it suggested that it's important to rest as much as possible and eat well, especially protein.

It's great that you've made it to your gestation, as long as you are being monitored well (which it sounds like you are) I'm sure all will be fine. It is really positive that your little one is still growing, and from all the reading I've done I wouldn't think they'd bring your date forward unless that slows down a lot or if you get reverse EDF. As PP have said, keep an eye on the movements too. Take care and keep us posted (if you want to of course) x

I had this at my 28 week growth scan. It's increased resistance in the umbilical cord and can cause issues with growth restriction. It can also both cause and be caused by high blood pressure in the mother.

My consultant wasn't overly concerned but said it would be monitored and they would only act if there were indications of growth restriction. At my 32, 36 and 38 week scans it dropped each time (so less resistance) and growth was normal, so I was discharged by the consultant.

I also had a very active baby and this was commented on as possibly skewing the results.

Are you taking aspirin? I was put on 150mg a day to help reduce the risks around high BP.

Did they also do a MCA Doppler? For me, at the scan which picked up high PI and RI, the sonographer did a MCA Doppler, which was extremely normal and reassured them that no action was needed.

Three week old DD is currently asleep on my chest. She was born at 41 weeks, 8lb13 and very long.

Thankyou both for that reassuring info, no I have to go bac this his week for repeat Doppler and then have my last growth scan at 37+5 I am delivering at 38+3 anyway , her growth dropped at 34 weeks scan but had jumped at 36 week scan from 4-8 to 5-14 I find it hard to believe as I've only gained 1lb in this time but I know there not all tht reliable
My bp has been perfect upto this week where it's jumped to 135/95 xx
