6 weeks pregnant and IVF referral

Hi,

I haven't posted on here before so not too sure where to start but I am 38 and 6 weeks 4 days pregnant. We have been trying for a baby for two years and have had 2 miscarriages at around 5 weeks that the doctor classed as biochemical pregnancies. We were referred for IVF in October and my appointment for initial tests next week and an information evening the following week. I am scared that if we cancel the IVF appointment something will go wrong with my pregnancy and that we will go to the back of the IVF queue. I was told by the consultant that I have until my 39th birthday next October to have IVF on the NHS so time is running out. I just wondered if anyone has been in this situation before and if I should cancel the appointment or ring them to explain the situation.
Of course all could go well with the pregnancy and I may not need IVF :-)
I am booked in with the midwife on 2nd December when I will be 8 weeks pregnant.
Thanks
Kate x

Can you ring them and ask if you can change the appointment? Tell them the one you've been given is not convenient because work or something and see if you can reschedule for after Xmas? By that point your pregnancy should be more secure and in the meantime someone who isn't pregnant might get the opportunity to have your appointment next week.

@JosephineDeBeauharnais I did think about doing that but was concerned that as my pregnancy is already registered with my doctors and midwife that they may see that in my notes. If I can put it off until after Christmas it would be perfect as I am going to try and book a private scan at around 8-9 weeks to check all is ok. And like you say it would also give someone the opportunity to take this appointment.

The person you ring to change the appointment won't be able to see any medical information about you, especially if that is held elsewhere i.e. by your GP and community midwife.

Thanks Josephine. I will give them a call and rearrange then

I agree with the poster above. The IVF clinic will not have access to your GP records. Fingers crossed for a healthy pregnancy Flowers
