Flea treatment in pregnancy

Obviously not for myself Grinbut I noticed a flea on my dog when bathing her yesterday. She is regularly treated but realised she was probably overdue so treated her quickly with the frontline drops to nip the problem in the bud as didn't fancy a flea infested dog or house.
Anyway, I'm now wondering if that was the right thing to do as I'm 9 weeks pregnant and have since read mixed views on this. There doesn't seem to be any definite official guidance around this, more forums where people have asked the same question as me and there are differing views as it's a pesticide/insecticide which should be avoided in pregnancy.

I used gloves so didn't get any on my skin and will avoid petting her in that area for the next day or so. I'm reassuring myself that it's safe to use on pregnant dogs so must be safe around pregnant humans? Right?

... first time pregnancy and I have a habit of whittling about things I probably shouldn't have done, after I've done them Grin anyone else have any experience of flea treatment and pregnancy?

I'd maybe not trust frontline to treat the fleas as it's not always effective. As long as you dont have skin contact them I'm sure you'll be fine

I regularly gave cats flea treatment during my pregnancy but my vets did give me some surgical gloves to use to avoid any direct contact

@dementedpixie our vet recommended frontline and we've always stuck with it. Seems to have worked ok but we've never really had a problem with fleas and she's not the most adventurous dog outside so less likely to pick them up from places. I guess if it's not that effective on dogs then less likely to cause any harm to a developing baby?? (Wishful thinking)

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted thank you. I used gloves so definitely didn't get any on my skin but just a little worried as it takes a while to sink in and I can see the greasy patch it's left on her fur. Poor dog keeps coming to me for a fuss and I'm trying to avoid her like the plague right now Blush

It's fine, just don't pet your dog until it's dried in. Pregnant vets and nurses work all through pregnancy and handle much more harmful drugs than flea drops.

It's more that fleas are becoming resistant to the active ingredients in frontline. Might be ok where you are though.

@Alittleprivacyplease I did think that too about vets and veterinary nurses. Thanks
