Pelvic girdle pain

Week 24 and starting to get pelvic girdle pain. I had this in my last pregnancy and feel like this time it's starting sooner.

Is it worth paying privately for a physio?
I saw one last time but wasn't sure how helpful it was and it was towards the end of my pregnancy

Yes definitely see a physio. Check out the pelvic partnership list of recommended practitioners and see someone who has experience treating PGP.

I saw one of the physios on the list and she definitely made a difference to my pain levels. Unfortunately I could only go for one session (I live overseas and was just back in the UK for a holiday).

Also make sure you're taking steps to protect your pelvis, even if you feel like you can do something doesn't mean its a good idea to! I chased a cat out of the garden last night as it was fighting with mine and I was really pleased that I could actually run but I'm paying for it now as its made my pain so much worse. The things I've found have helped keep my pain levels pretty in check are:

  • Walking really slowly
  • Taking steps one at a time
  • Not carrying heavy stuff
  • Not doing breaststroke when swimming
  • Not sitting cross legged or with my legs bent underneath me
  • Not sleeping on my back
  • Wearing a support belt when I know I'll be doing lots of walking (though tbh this is less effective now the effects of my physio session have worn off)

Hi kinsters, thanks so much for the link. I'll look up someone from that list!

And will definitely be following your tips, I think what aggravated my pgp was sitting cross legged on the floor so will try to stop doing that

I had this with my first pregnancy but it didn’t start until around 32/34 weeks. so this time around i panicked when it started becoming painful to turn over in bed around 20 weeks, I could feel like pubic bone almost grinding as I was walking and I thought if it’s this bad already I’m going to to be able to work much longer. Luckily my bump had a sudden growth spurt and popped then the pain almost went away completely. Have been managing to continue with pump and spin classes at the gym with no problems. It may be something that comes and goes but if you find it gets worse or doesn’t go away then physio could be a good idea.
