Due to circumstances I haven’t been able to attend any classes and, although I know babies don’t always (and more often that not don’t at all) follow the books, I’m looking for something to read just to make me feel a little more prepared.

Ideally covering the basics - bathing, temperatures, sleeping, what to expect etc

I know I’ll most likely pick up things as I go along but I’m a total bookworm and think this will make me feel like less of an anxious shambles!

Hello OP, I read first time. Parent by Lucy atkins, also your baby week by week was good when the baby was here by Simon Cave although I'd recommend reading a couple of weeks in advance so you know what to expect. Goodluck OP. Just remember babies don't read the books so you can get everything 'right' and they still might want something else!!

That should say 'first time parent' of course. Stupid phone.

I liked holly willoughbys first one, happy baby or something similar. It gave the guidelines but also different options

I'm in Scotland so might be different where you are (or times may have moved on as my youngest is almost 7!) but I was given a book at my booking in appointment called "Ready, Steady, Baby" which I found really useful and informative.

I don't have it anymore or is have sent it to you but you might be able to find one somewhere. If not, there's a website www.nhsinform.scot/ready-steady-baby which seems to cover it.

I second 'First Time Parent' - tries to inject a bit of humour into proceedings without giving you a condescending feel

I third 'First Time Parent'. Smile

Thank you so much :)

'What every parent needs to know' is brilliant
