Perfect Prep Machine

I’m 29 weeks so starting to really think about routines etc. I will not be breastfeeding at all and wanted advice from any mums out there on the best way to make up formula. I know you aren’t meant to make bottles and leave in the fridge so is the perfect prep machine easier for making bottles then? Especially thinking for those night feeds early on. I’m worried about the cleanliness of the perfect prep machine and mould etc? My midwife told me to steer clear of it as it’s not safe but I’ve seen so many mums use them so really wanted to know from mums who formula fed the easiest way to make bottles and get into a routine. Thanks.

With a perfect prep there is no need to make up in advance. It literally takes seconds. Some people keep them upstairs by the bed for minimum faffing. Literally loved ours. Just clean it for goodness sake and there's nowt to worry about.

I know ultimately it is personal preference but unless you have medical reasons, why not use the free "perfect prep machine" nature equipped you with. Milk is free, always the the correct temperature and no sterilisation needed. It's difficult for 2-4 weeks then it's a breeze. It's worth spending £100 on private breastfeeding support at the beginning, formula etc is expensive.
Oh piss off, self righteous arse!

I've not yet read the whole thread so apologies if I've repeated something someone has said.

I've formula fed since my daughter was 6 weeks old and at first we used the ready made bottles as she was having so little each feed.

For the powder I use 1oz boiling water to kill the germs in the powder and then add cooled boiled water to this once it has been mixed to make up the oz.

We used to boil the kettle for each feed which but now I use a flask and change the water every 8 hours, I wish I had done this earlier as it saves so much time!

I use a powder divider pot to prep for the day ahead and then have all my bottles sterilised and ready to go. I have an extra bottle for cooled water that I fill from the kettle in the morning when doing the flask.

So it's basically a manual version of the prep machine!

@Mookie81 👏🏻 well said.

I hate it when people go full blown preachy about breast feeding. Bore off

We kept the perfect prep in the bedroom so I basically made bottles in my sleep 😂

Cleaned it religiously and changed the filters, used TT ones only. Even in a hard water area we never saw an ounce of mould.

Allthenames "For the powder I use 1oz boiling water to kill the germs in the powder and then add cooled boiled water to this once it has been mixed to make up the oz." Just checking that you know topping up doesn't work unless you pre-measure the cooled boiled water for each individual feed.
Eg 1oz of hot water to kill the powder would need 2oz cooled boiled water to top up the bottle to make 3 oz. Not topping the water up to 3oz on the bottle. A 3oz bottle is closer to 4oz when made with water and powder as powder displaces the water volume.
You may have meant this, but just wanted to clarify for others who may think to try that method.

I think all this bottle temp trauma is what convinced me to breastfeed plus I'm very lazy However if that hadn't worked out I would 100% get a perfect prep and move it upstairs each night.
