Period type pain at 4w2d

Had a BFP yesterday. 2nd preg (1st was 5 years ago). Had some pink/brown discharge the day before yesterday which I now realise was implantation bleeding.

I’m now having what I can only describe as period pain. Bad enough to want to take paracetamol and ibuprofen. Dr Google seems to suggest some mild cramping is normal, but this feels more than mild. No bleeding though. I didn’t have this in my first pregnancy I’m sure.

Shall I just rest, try to forget about it and go to bed?

I literally had the same for a couple of days and now it just comes and go every so often. Don't worry too much about it, I've been told it's normal as your body usually has a period around this time so is adjusting to the changes that's all 🥰

It's common to get period-like pains in very early pregnancy as implantation and stretching occurs. It's safe to take paracetamol but not ibuprofen. Hope you're okay!

The day i tested with my 2nd i was in agony with period pains. I thought i was about to have the worst period ever.. don't even know why i tested as didn't suspect pregnancy. So yes it can be normal. Just keep an eye on it incase any bleeding/pain but dont get too worried xx

I'm 5+3 and getting really really band period cramp like pain. The only slight difference is that it comes in waves rather than being constant. So it might last 15 minutes, ease off for 20 and then come back. Bad enough to make me want to cry. I went to the hospital two days ago and they weren't worried at all. Scanned me to check for ectopic just in case but basically said "take paracetamol every 4 hours for a few days and I will prescribe you codiene if you want". I thought the strong meds were a bit OTT but good to know they expect pains bad enough to need them.

I had really really bad period type cramps the day before my BFP I'm now 17 weeks. It was the worse cramp I've ever experienced I was rolling around on the bed it hurt that much felt like the worst period ever was on its way. The next day I got my BFP and from that day the cramp changed to more of a stretching type cramp that came in waves this lasted for around 2 or 3 weeks but wasn't as strong as the weeks passed I mentioned it at my booking appointment and the midwife said it was just things stretching to accommodate my growing baby even that early. It now just feels like period type cramp now and again but very mild and doesn't last long.

Good luck with your pregnancy 💗💙 x

Thank you for the responses, I’m still feeling the cramp but feel reassured now.

@peanutfoldover I had exactly the same for a couple of day's. I just took paracetamol and eventually it's calmed down. Honestly nothing to worry about, I've spoken to so many people and they've all had the same issues when first pregnant. 🥰
