Trying to get time off for first scan

I'm 11+5 and just had my appointment through for my 12 week scan on Tuesday 19th.
I work in a busy kitchen so my shift needs to be covered and my boss is the only person that can cover me. I think she is being unreasonable as she is trying to make me take the morning off before the scan otherwise it's 'too much faffing around' for her and I've already tried to rearrange with the hospital but they wouldn't do it on the grounds that my boss needs to essentially get over the fact that I'm legally allowed to go.
So I'll be missing out on the pay I'd have got in the morning. Are they allowed to do this? She has been very hostile towards me, even insinuating that I was making up that fact I should get my normal pay whilst I am attending my scan during work hours.
I'm the first person at the company to be pregnant. What can I do to get them to understand and work with me without making my life hell for the next few months?!

Thanks

You have a legal right to paid time off to attend medical appointments related to your pregnancy. Assuming your employer knows you are pregnant, they have no right to deny you time off to attend your scan.
If you don't have an HR department and aren't a member of a union then I'd suggest contacting citizens advice as they will be able to give you guidance on your rights and dealing with an uncooperative employer x

OP I'd suggest showing your boss this page if you don't have an HR person/trade union who can help:

Good luck!

No they are not. You are entitled to full pay for any necessary antenatal appointments.

Thanks for your responses!
They've been aware of my pregnancy since 7 weeks so I'm surprised they haven't looked into this more.
I'm concerned that they're trying to get me to take the morning off before my scan, which means losing out on a couple of hours pay too. Surely they can't deny me attending work either?
They've even suggested I only get paid 1.5 hours for the appointment as they're basing it on half an hour of travel each way and a half hour scan!
I think I will have to go to citizens advice because it's stressing me out!! Sad
