Hi ladies x

Following on from my post the other day I ended up in hospital on IV fluids and was diagnosed with the thing that sounds like a Harry Potter spell!

I was discharged last night with medication and I’m keeping food down just not over doing it.

Ladies who’ve been there I was just wondering how long it took you to feel normal again? I’m not sure I was hoping for a miracle cure but I’m feeling weak and was really hoping on going back to work soon. What’s your experiences please? Xx

Hello. Congratulations on your pregnancy. How many weeks are you?
In my first hyperemesis pregnancy I went back to work at about 17 weeks. In my second hyperemesis pregnancy I attempted to go back at about the same time but after a few failed shifts where I was sent home each time I admitted defeat and didnt return until after maternity leave. I do work in a job where i am on my feet all day however and i did start to feel a little better after about 15 weeks each time.

I've been off with HG 2.5 weeks now got the medication hopefully right for me. I'm managing to keep food down (having a rubbish day just feel off) I'm starting to feel a version of me. The more nutrients I'm getting the stronger I feel.

You'll get there I'm 13 weeks and it's easing I think. Congratulations on your bubba xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy, commiserations on the HG. I felt able to function a bit from around 16 weeks, and almost normal now at 23 weeks. Keep on top of the meds, stay off work as long as you need to and nothing will help more than rest. Come on over to the main HG thread on here, lots of amazing support there.

Ondansetron will help if you can get it I took it till the day I gave birth!

LashesZ · 12/11/2019 14:15

I suffered with debilitating HG in both pregnancies all the way through. In fact, the vomiting actually induced my labour by breaking my waters lol. Keep on top of the ondansetron and stay home to recover your strength. I stayed off work for a month and went back. Best of luck to you xxx

Glad you're managing to keep some food down OP. I was signed off work until 17 weeks and went back then. I'm now 19 weeks and doing much better as long as I take it easy. For me the evenings are worst, I think because I'm tired. I'm still very much on a beige diet but my consultant said not to worry as long as you are managing to eat. As others have said keep taking whatever drugs you've been given. I thought I was doing better this weekend and didn't take my ondansetron, big mistake.

Kanga83 · 12/11/2019 19:35

I was medicated until 32 with my first and up to birth with my second. My advice would be to sip tiny amounts but frequently, eat only what you can actually stomach and take it as easy as you can. Baby will be fine- mine were 10lbs 13 and 10lbs 9 and I vomited every single day and barely ate. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I was always worried baby would struggle- they didn't. I had iv's and and iron infusion which made me feel much better so do make sure your iron levels are frequently tested as they weren't with my first.

Oh bless you I feel so sorry for you. I'm 26 weeks tomorrow and only just started feeling okay over the last 2 weeks or so. When I say feeling okay I mean no physical sickness. The last time I was sick was down the cereal aisle at asda and had no help from anyone. I still struggle eating most things and suffer with terrible acid reflux. I was signed off work from around 7 weeks till 13 and was so miserable. When I'm having a tough day I think back to all those weeks ago and it makes me feel not so bad. I really hope it passes for you soon. I was in hospital and still on 2 different types of tablets. Good luck.

Congrats. Not helpful to you but mine lasted til 38 weeks. Like a Pp, Ondansetron helped a lot!

CatToddlerUprising · 12/11/2019 20:00

I had HG all the way through to my caesarean. DD was very healthy! No medication worked for me. I just had to find ways to cope- lucozade, Fresh fruit ice lollies and no hot meals mainly. The bonus was I didn’t have to buy maternity clothes. It can be so debilitating

Emmaemmaemmaemma · 13/11/2019 13:40

Hi ladies thanks for your replies. I’ll be 20 weeks tomorrow it just seems to have got worse. Been given cyclizine and metoclopramide. I was hoping to go back to work :( il hop on over on the other the hg thread! X
