Question about free prescriptions

Newbie pregnant here. I understand we get free prescriptions but can't find much more detail on that. Is there a form to fill out or do you just say "I'm pregnant" at the pharmacy?

Ask your midwife about a form you fill out. Sure you only get them later on though x

Ok, thank you x

You will get a form from your midwife, if I remember correctly at your booking in appointment. You then fill that out and send it off and you will get a letter confirming you are entitled.

In the meantime, double check with your pharmacist, but you can pay and then fill out a form and claim the expenses back when you get your exemption letter. But worth just clarifying that with pharmacist

My midwife sent off for mine at my booking appointment, you'll then get a certificate through the post and then you'll tick the correct box when you pick up a prescription. I usually take my certificate with me but I've never actually been asked for it (although it's quite obvious now at 37 weeks haha)

Yep, you get the form at your booking appointment - my midwife literally just signed the form & told me to fill in all the details and post it myself!

If you need a prescription before your certificate arrives, ask for a receipt to claim the money back. It’s an A4 sized blue piece of paper. You can then get your money back later on! Smile

Yes I got the form for the maternity exemption certificate from the midwife.
You need the maternity exemption certificate to claim free prescriptions.

I didn't get the form until a couple of weeks ago (I'm currently 29w) and it was from the Midwife - I had to ask though as I think they all assumed someone else has done it! They complete it and you then have to give it to your GP to stamp and send off. It covers you for the entire period of your pregnancy (is backdated to the start) and for 1 year post delivery I believe. I have receipts for the prescriptions I've had and paid for whilst waiting for the cert as pharmacist said I can go in for a refund when the certificate comes through.

My midwife gave me the form I needed to fill in and I sent it off as I was on lots of medication right from the beginning. But the usual practice locally is that midwives only give it to you if you ask.
