Migraines

I used to suffer with them regularly but in recent years, I mainly just get silent migraines. I'd say a handful a year with one or two turning into a painful migraine.

I know it's common for the patterns to change in pregnancy but in the past week or so I've had 3 quite severe attacks. Last night I was awake all night - at one point I was crying like a baby because of the relentless pain.

Paracrtemol did nothing to help and even the cold compress was too much weight on my head. My eyeballs were on fire!

I slept for the morning so missed the chance to go to the GP but I don't know how they can help anyway, everything I've read seems to say there's nothing you can take in pregnancy.

Anyone got any tips on how to treat or deal with them?

If you go to A&E, if it's really crippling as they can be. they may give you oxygen, which is safe in pregnancy and can really help.

My GP told me post bloody partum that taking my usual migraine sprays would have caused no harm to the baby!! You must ask your GP for proper meds. Mw won't suggest you take anything..

All sympathy to you. I suffer really badly with them too and am pregnant at the moment (with other dcs in tow). It is hell. No words of advice, just big solidarity :(

You can take triptans when pregnant, which you can buy over the counter in boots.

Amitriptyline. I get migraines bad and was taking Topiramate but that can’t be used in pregnancy so I’ve been put on a low dosage of amitriptyline which has kept them at bay. Have a word with your midwife who will refer you to hospital about it x
