At my wits end with nausea :(

I’m 7 weeks pregnant and feel so sick all the time, it started just over a week ago and has got progressively worse. I’m not actually sick and occasional rest after something to eat (never the same thing though so i cannot pinpoint a food type that helps) but otherwise I just feel so sick - it’s affecting everything I do, I can’t concentrate at work and am sad and irritable at home. I’ve tried absolutely every food imaginable to no avail- has anyone felt like this before ? Any miracle cures?

Please don’t think I’m ungrateful - I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks a few months ago and when I’m not cross about feeling sick I’m cross at feeling like this as it does feel like a more successful pregnancy :)

You’ll see on here there’s a new thread practically every day saying the same thing - that’s not to belittle how you are feeling, 6 weeks or so ago I felt/posted exactly the same and was miserable and desperate, but I suppose it’s a comfort to know that a lot of people go through this hellish period. Not everyone breezes through pregnancy as it can seem sometimes in real life. The nausea passes for most people after first trimester, at 16 weeks I feel pretty much fine now. There’s not a lot you can do really, eat a lot, sleep a lot, count down the minutes to the second trimester. You don’t have to worry about not being grateful at being pregnant, that theory annoys me. Why should we be grateful to feel dreadful! It’s shite! We want a baby, not to feel like death warmed up. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you’re so I’ll, not a miracle cure but I found diet ginger ale and mini cheddars are helping me.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

abbs1 · 10/11/2019 20:43

@Babbabump I would seek some medical help and get some anti sickness medication to help with the nausea. I've had a terrible time with severe hyperemesis and had to seek medication from week 5 after suffering a miscarriage previously as well. I was vomiting constantly on top of the 24/7 nausea but please don't suffer in silence. Hope you get the help you need.

rosea19 · 10/11/2019 20:48

I'm 8 weeks and felt same as you until a few days ago and it was awful! I changed when I took my pregnacare vitamins from morning to evening and that did the trick for me. Could just be a coincidence but i felt loads better so worth a try.

Isbutteracarb · 10/11/2019 20:50

I'm so sorry you're having a rough time with this, I had horrendous nausea during pregnancy (to the extent that I told people before 12 weeks because I just didn't have the strength/energy to try and hide it) and remember how hard it was.

I found eating little and often helped - never letting my stomach be empty as that seemed to make it worse. Beige food, toast and savoury snacks, oatcakes, everything as bland as possible. I also tried sea bands (you can buy them in Boots) and while not a miracle cure they did seem to work for a while. Ginger did nothing for me unfortunately!

Isbutteracarb · 10/11/2019 20:51

Oh and plain not-too-sugary oat biscuits or digestives.

Pinkpanther473 · 10/11/2019 20:52

It’s rough and seemingly never ending. Different things work for different people, I hit on the idea that sour chewy sweets often could stop me from actually vomiting, and I was given some advice that little protein snacks (especially first thing in the morning) are sometimes better than crackers etc. I got some almonds and they did seem to help me first thing in the morning.
I found weeks 7-9 to be the worst if that’s any tiny consolation.
Never found meds that helped with nausea just with vomiting but it’s worth trying, everyone seems to have it slightly different.
Lots of rest.
Hope it eases for you soon Flowers

Babbabump · 10/11/2019 21:06

Thank you - it’s definitely helping knowing others have felt the same ! My first was such a breeze !!!
I will definitely try the sea bands and taking my vitamins in the evening so thank you!
I didn’t realise you could take medication so I will mention that at my midwife appointment in a couple of weeks if no improvement :)

Thanks for the kind words Flowers

@babbabump there are different medications available. The most common is cyclizine but it didn't work for me so I was prescribed ondansatron which a lot of women take and find really good. If neither of those work or a combination of the two I'm on metoclopromide and ondansatron but under the care of consultants and gynaecologist doctors due to the severe hyperemesis I have.

Babbabump · 10/11/2019 22:02

@abbs1 thank you- I’m sorry you feel so rubbish, fortunately I don’t think I have hyperemis as I haven’t been sick but I’ll definitely look into those medications.

Inhope we soon have healthy babies to cuddle and we can forget this ever happened ! Flowers

I wouldn't bother waiting for the midwife appointment, OP. Book a GP appointment as soon as you can. It'll probably be a few days away at least; in the meantime, try some of the things here. If something works, you can cancel the appointment.

There's no point feeling awful when there's stuff that can help.

Pinkpanther473 · 10/11/2019 22:18

@abbs1 sorry to hear how you are suffering. Agree that the meds you mentioned help with controlling the vomiting and helping to avoid hospital admissions. I had one hyperemesis pg where those meds made a difference and the second pg I had full on nausea with very little vomiting, meds didn’t really help with this to be honest. Ondansetron in particular just hinders the vomiting reflex I think.
But it is always worth talking to the GP as there may be something to help nausea.

Iamnotaroboteither · 10/11/2019 22:19

It is awful. I have had terrible nausea in all of my pregnancies. Mine got worse with each pregnancy and my last one was just horrendous, for the first time I was actually sick which didn't make the nausea better for even a minute which I hoped it might. The only times I felt mildly better was being asleep (!) and eating, not that there was much I felt like eating that didn't make me feel worse. I mainly ate dairy. It sucks and you feel you can't moan BUT YOU CAN!!! It's bloody hard work. Apparently omega 3 supplements can make it better, I tried it, nothing helped me. Just know, it is more than likely it will disappear by 12 weeks and even if it lasts your whole pregnancy, the second you've got your baby you'll have forgotten all about it, you'll be able to eat and drink to your hearts content. Try and distract yourself as much as possible, keep busy, eat small amounts often if you can, sleep and do a little exercise. Good luck and congratulations!!

ItsNotMeItsNotMe · 10/11/2019 22:47

I’m sorry to hear this Op, nobody is going to think your ungrateful I had a MC a couple of months before DS. With DS I had awful MS 5 months of it all day everyday, it’s tough it’s so tough. Not a lot helped me tbh but I did try

-seabands helped a little
-eating little & often helped a little too
-stopped pregnacare vit, only took folic acid & B12 helped a lot PC made me so sick
-ice pops helped a lot
-if you can’t eat I had 3 cold smoothies a day

I hope this helps & it will pass OP, I know at the moment it’s awful but more than likely it will pass x

Isbutteracarb · 11/11/2019 11:07

Even after my nausea eased after 4 months I found that it would come back with a vengeance if I went too long without eating so I used to drink cold milk with Ovaltine as soon as I woke up in the morning, worked a treat! And don't worry about moaning, nausea is just the worst - complain as much as you want to, just keep reminding yourself it'll pass Thanks

paperplant · 11/11/2019 11:26

i was nauseous from week 5 of my first pregnancy (I was only really sick a handful of times). The only food I could actually think about eating without feeling sick was fruit. The hungrier I got, the more nauseous I felt, so keep nibbling on something. I also found distraction worked a bit - I'd feel less nauseous at the gym and even though I wasn't keen on going out and meeting anyone, if I did, I did feel a bit better.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Ginger is supposed to help too (fresh ginger, ginger tea, ginger biscuits...) and plain salted crisps were also helpful to get over the initial I'm-so-hungry-but-nothing-appeals-to-me stage.

Feelingpoorlysick · 11/11/2019 11:30

Defiinitely speak to your Gp. There are medications that are perfectly safe for you to take. I had HG and was sick 30 times in 24 hours when I was at my worst so I can sympathise with the constant sick feeling.
Try to eat little and often.

Caspianberg · 11/11/2019 11:39

If its any help, i had the same, constant nausea, no actual sickness from 5-9 ish weeks. Now 16 weeks and haven't really had anything since then. So theres a good chance it will shift

MrsH497 · 11/11/2019 11:49

Don't suffer go to the gp! Doesn't matter if you're not being sick the medication may still help the nausea. I was "only" being sick 1-2 times a day but constantly nauseous medication eventually has worked for me. Please make sure you keep hydrated I ended up in hospital last week because I was dehydrated and lacked nutrition. I'm 13 weeks now and with medication able to nibble during the day and eat dinner.

Don't worry about moaning I felt the same MC at 6.5 in May so didn't want anyone thinking I was moaning but it's such a horrible feeling. Hope you feel better soon.

chocolate26 · 11/11/2019 11:49

I'm so sorry your feeling so sick Sad it really is so hard! I'm 8+2 and since 5 weeks I've had awful sickness, constant nausea and sick 2-5 times a day. I did go to my GP but he refused to give me anti sickness tablets as luckily I wasn't dehydrated so I'm just having to deal with it. We are also moving house in just under 3 weeks so that's hard.

I haven't really got any advice, I've tried all the home remedies and found most don't help! The only thing that has helped me a bit is cutting a piece of fresh ginger and smelling it or digging my nail into it to get the strong smell! Sprite also takes the edge off for me.

Fingers crossed it will all be worth it in the end Smile we just have to get past this part first! It won't last forever Smile
