Hello all so I'm 35 weeks and 4 days and have had a consultant appointment today and my heart rate was 148bpm so I'm now having to have a medical assessment done. Growth scan was brilliant baby is growing well and on the 90th centile by all accounts but now there is talk of placing me on beta blockers but I'm terrified it will hurt the baby.
I've had four short ecgs and one 24 hour one but results seem to be lost for the longer one! Feeling very anxious about the next few weeks has anyone had pregnancy related tachycardia and had to take beta blockers and can offer some words of wisdom x

Oh no! That is quite high. Had you rushed to get to your appointment? I had a 24 hour ECG fitted as they were concerned about my heart rate. It ranged from the 60's to 160bpm and I did very, very little. The 160bpm reading was when I returned to the hospital to have the ecg removed. I didn't have a follow up. Hopefully they will fit you with another ECG to get a true picture of your heart rate. The reason for my high HR was due to an iron deficiency. Have you had bloods taken recently? After iron tablets I regulated and am now in the 80's-90's.

I have tachycardia issues outside of pregnancy related largely to thyroid issues. I've been mostly fine so far (28 weeks) without beta blockers but did end up in a+e at one point due to a lot of skipped beats which were very uncomfortable but docs decided not harmful.
I have had slight tachycardia here and there which as the previous poster said appeared to be sure to low iron levels (was told I had iron depletion rather than iron deficiency )- but once I started taking iron pills it did help the heart rate a lot. I assume they would have checked your iron levels but seems worth asking?

Hello thank you for reply I've had quite the day two traces one ecg one heart ultra sound one baby ultra sound blood tests and eight hours later I was allowed home consultant cardiologist said my heart is strong and healthy just beating too fast he said it could be because of my weight being on high side late pregnancy stomach issues and my thyroid meds. I've been prescribed omeprazole and gaviscon and I think heart doctor would like my levo lowered again but my tsh is creeping up x no beta blockers needed as ecg is fine from today as was heart scan x roll on December second xxx

I can offer experience on this one!!! I had heart issues before pregnancy and was on a beta blocker called cardicor. Upon pregnancy cardiology swapped it to what they said was the safest one in pregnancy called metropolol (sorry I butchered the spelling of that!) was great but upon developing pre eclampsia I was swapped to labetalol to control the blood pressure. Apparently this is not so good for fast heart rates which I suffer from, but honestly I have found it better than the lot! We are week thirty into pregnancy now, have been medicated pretty much the whole time! Baby is slightly small as was expected so far but nobody is overly concerned! It’s great you don’t need the beta blockers but if that changes, please don’t worry about it! And just to add, my cardiologist told me higher heart rates are extremely common in pregnancy, as unpleasant as they are most are harmless. I found my arrythmia was really noticeable and I def agree with him that the pregnancy contributed to that! It’s hard work growing a baby!!! It sounds like they have given you a good checking over and I wish you a smooth pregnancy from here on in!❤️❤️❤️
