Sleepyhead

First time mum to be.
Can you advise whether a sleepyhead is the same as a Moses basket - would I need both or would one or other suffice?

Thank you!

Moses baskets are safe to sleep in. Sleepyheads are not and are a SIDs risk. Get the moses basket.

As above pp said. It's a minefield out there. So many things being sold that aren't actually safe!! Deffo go with moses basket.

You can’t leave the baby to sleep in it unattended so I wouldn’t get it

One is a safe sleeping surface for overnight sleeping, that’s the moses basket.
A sleepyhead is not.

So does anyone know what purpose the sleepyhead serves? If any? X

Sleepyhead is a sleep aid, not to be used in place of a cot, crib, Moses but alongside one .. the theory is the make baby feel cocooned and safe, therefore sleep better. The high sides are what does that. However, the high sides are also the bit that poses the SIDS risk, baby getting its face stuck into the side & not being able to breathe.

It’s a minefield. People swear by the sleepyheads but it’s a risk you take. The company that make them say baby should not be left asleep in them unsupervised therefore you shouldn’t use them overnight & you should keep a close eye during naps. So you either decide to take the risk or you follow the safe sleep advice which says they shouldn’t be used. Babies have died in them in the US (they are called dock-a-tot over there) but babies have died in Moses baskets too.. do some research & make an informed choice.

I have & decided I personally just couldn’t take the risk. I’d never forgive myself. But that’s just me. I don’t judge others for using them.

Hard no for me. My daughter never took to it and I sold it after a woman who worked for a SIDS charity said they can withhold information about casualties for 5 years and she had had some pretty horrible feedback. I just didn’t feel it was safe going forward. Lots of friends used it fine. I just didn’t like the idea of it.
