Paranoid PCOS and pregnant

I'm a bit paranoid, I was diagnosed with PCOS about 13 years ago, I'm 30 and we decided "if I get pregnant, I get pregnant", we weren't exactly trying but at the same time weren't being careful, low and behold 4 weeks after that little convo I discovered I am pregnant, went for a private scan on Sunday and found I was 6w 5d (so I am 7w today). I am absolutely paranoid I am going to miscarry because of the PCOS, I know there is so much online that is scaremongering, so has anyone had PCOS just gone through pregnancy easily first time?

Yes, me. Twice. No problems and all your PCOS symptoms will be mercifully on hold Thanks

marshmallowpink · 05/11/2019 15:36

Also i was never told of a link between pcos and miscarriage so does one even exist? It's normal to feel anxious in pregnancy but I don't think you should think twice about your PCOS. Oh and I also got pregnant with PCOS almost straight away despite being told it might never harm. Congratulations

marshmallowpink · 05/11/2019 15:36

Never happen, sorry! Bloody autocorrect

AllyW89 · 05/11/2019 15:40

@marshmallowpink I don't think there is a proven link, just seen a few things online some of which saying you are 3 times more likely to miscarry if you have PCOS (with no evidence it seems either) (I should be banned from Google, 99% of it is bull). I was told many moons ago they didn't think I would get pregnant without help, apparently that was far from right!

I'm just paranoid, just normal thing I think though with everything you hear.

My PCOS was never raised as any cause for concern during pregnancy by midwives or doctors. There are so many things to be anxious about in pregnancy that you have to stop yourself googling and try to enjoy it. Easier said than done but it goes very fast. I was consumed with anxiety with my first and really regret not enjoying it more. Do some pregnancy meditations, allow yourself to believe this fabulous thing is really happening and take it day by day. Good luck with it all

I have PCOS and have had four dc and no miscarriages. I didn’t know there was a link between the two?

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 05/11/2019 17:08

I have PCOS and managed to fall pregnant very easily (so lucky I know) and had my DS nine months later. The only problem I had was reduced movement throughout the third trimester which ended in an induction and c section but I don't think that was related to the PCOS (to my knowledge)

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 05/11/2019 17:09

Meant to add - wishing you the very best for a healthy and happy pregnancy - I'd say if you're worrying about it often have a chat with a midwife who can hopefully put your mind at rest Thanks

I'm 37 years old have PCOS only took 4 months to conceive I did have an early miscarriage at 4weeks 3days but then conceived again the month after and am now 11 weeks and 1 day. I didn't know of any additional risk PCOS causes during pregnancy (just potentially makes it harder for some to conceive), my midwife seemed unconcerned about my PCOS when I had my initial meeting at 9 weeks my only slight risk elevation was that I'm over 35 years old.

Seriously don't worry just get on the folic acid and vit D ASAP. ;)

AllyW89 · 05/11/2019 19:58

Thanks everyone, just me reading to much, midwife wasn't concerned when I mentioned PCOS either, the sonographer at my private scan was more concerned cos my right ovary had gone walkabout haha. Already on the folic acid and everything, just need to stop reading my old friend google!

I have PCOS. Took 12 years to conceive. Completely normal pregnancy except for some breakthrough bleeding and at the end when I got preeclampsia but that could have happened to anyone.

I felt the same as you, I wanted the baby so so much and I when bled at 12 weeks, I spent 3 days just laying devastated on the sofa until I could get a scan. And still all was completely fine. So even if you do get some light bleeding around 12 weeks, don’t panic, it’s totally normal but no one ever mentions it so you instantly think the worst. Just mentioning it now in case x

Boymummy3 · 05/11/2019 20:15

Pcos here... 3rd baby on the way 1 mmc..... mmc was never linked to pcos and tbh I've never even heard that it's a problem during pregnancy either.

Only thing pcos has in relation to pregnancy etc is actually getting pregnant in the first place of course some people struggle like mad to get pregnant with pcos others dont.

Dont worry yourself xx

MarshmallowPink · 05/11/2019 21:39

@IamPickleRick I had the same experience, a bleed at 13 weeks that left me in a complete state. But no cause identified and apparently really common - I had no idea before this! I wish it was more commonly discussed

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 05/11/2019 21:45

2 healthy pregnancies despite PCOS.. All the best for yours.

heartburn888 · 05/11/2019 22:41

I have pcos and didn’t even think there was any complications relating to pregnancy, my midwife has never mentioned anything.

WinterWonders · 05/11/2019 22:44

Hi! I too have PCOS. I have had 2 healthy pregnancies and 2 healthy babies. Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy and birth of your beautiful baby.

GrumpyHoonMain · 06/11/2019 00:10

I have pcos and got pregnant via IVF. The NHS consultant’s main concern was early miscarriage as I couldn’t take metformin during the ivf protocol that gave me my bfp, and gestational diabetes and so I was told not to put on any weight throughout the pregnancy and booked for GTT tests.

DownRightAmazing · 06/11/2019 08:23

I have PCSO I had some difficulties conceding both times but ultimately got pregnant twice and have two wonderful children. Best Wishes to you...

IamPickleRick · 06/11/2019 11:13

MarshmallowPink it’s so terrifying isn’t kh, esp after how long it had taken to conceive. I was a complete mess, DH took me to a&e screaming. If someone, anyone, had warned me that it can happen, it would have really eased the situation. Since it happened I’ve gone on to have two more babies without any breakthrough bleeding though, it’s something to do with the pregnancy hormone not being enough to block the start of a period or something.

I have never had a MC though, so I don’t think PCOS is related - it’s getting pregnant, not making them stick that’s the problem for me. Good luck in your pregnancy OP Flowers
