20 week anomaly results

Hi all.., posting on here because my husband and I have decided to wait until further scans/results before we tell anyone else, and I just need to process/verbalise this...

20 week scan today showed baby has an inverted right foot, head looks a bit flattened (thinner and longer rather than round), small amount of fluid on by the heart and is proportionately on the 5th centile.

I am under a consultant due to previous birth (transverse lie, elective CS) but they've referred me up to London for another scan, because the consultant locally is so booked up. Just waiting to hear from them.

I don't know what to make of this all. Heart looks good, kidneys, brain etc etc all ok, but
It's so hard not to worry, my brain is jumping to the unthinkable.

She was in a funny position today, as has been at all my scans so maybe that's why heart head and feet are considered an anomaly- may just be squished because she doesn't seem to move Around that much. But if not, then she may/does have club foot. I screened low for downs (1:4800) and Edwards and Pataus (1:50,000+).

I have had a strange pregnancy with hyperemesis (hospitalised) and weight loss along with that. I still feel sick and can't eat too much, lso maybe that why she's so small.

Funnily enough, the sonographer seemed the least worried about fluid on/by the heart, but I can't even bring myself to google that.

Sorry, that's just an outpouring of conscious. I guess I'm just after a handhold or positive experiences please.

Hi I’m sorry I don’t have experience but didn’t want to ignore.
I’m sorry you’ve had some worrying news. Try and stay positive. I have a friend who was referred for additional testing as there was a strong indication of spina bifida but amino proved wrong and her little girl had no problems at all. Sometimes these things are wrong. XXX

@MockingJay27 thanks so much, I'm hoping it's one of those situations. We've got an apt now for 10:30 in London, so luckily not too long to wait. Xx

What a very difficult situation for you. I understand why you have decided to give yourself some time to start to process this. Is the review appointment on Monday?
I hope you have been told about ARC (antenatal results and choices) www.ARC-uk.org
Sending love & here if you need to talk x

Ginandgingers92 · 01/11/2019 17:45

@Nanmumandmidwife yes I have been, thank you. I went on the website and it didn't make much sense, but nothing really does right now!

I am sorry you have this kind of worry OP. What day have you got your scan in london? I have my fingers crossed that everything is perfect for you

My Dd has fluid on her heart at one of her scans, by the next one two weeks later it was gone.

My DS tested high for Spina Bifida, we had two weekly scans, she was also measuring small.

She was born with no problems and is now a healthy 17 year old.

Fingers crossed all goes well for you and you get positive news at your next scan x

We very luckily got booked in with kings at 10:30am on Monday. I'm just trying to get through this weekend (meant to be socialising) without too much worry xx

OP, my baby had a short femur at the 20 week scan and dropped down the centiles during every one of the many subsequent scans until she was induced at 37 weeks exactly. She was very small at birth (lower than the 0.4centile) but otherwise appears to have no medical problems and has begun stack the weight on now she's 8 weeks old. The fetal medicine consultants are extraordinarily knowledgeable and will guide you through their thinking. Wishing you and your baby health and happiness.
