Reduced movements and a drop in fetal weight

Hi,

I'm 31+2 weeks pregnant with my second baby and for the last day or so I've experienced reduced movements. I went to the hospital this morning and was there for six hours being monitored as well as had a scan.
They seemed to be concerned about the lack of movements as the baby didn't move much during the monitoring and they also said that the baby's weight has slowed down/dropped since last scan.
I asked if the reason I don't feel the movements is because I have an anterior placenta, something that they said wouldn't matter- I should still feel the baby as normal. But they couldn't give me an answer as to what/ if anything is wrong.

They sent me home but I've been asked to come back twice a week for monitoring and I'm seeing a consultant next week as well as having another scan in two weeks.
They said not too worry too much but at the same time, if I notice any slight change to come straight back.

Has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome? I'm trying not too stress but the fact that they seemed to take it all so serious has really stressed me out.

Thanks.

Had this my last pregnancy, went in few times for reduced movements, thou my baby moved a lot when in for monitoring. Had scan twice a week also because on one of my scans( had quite a lot, high risk pregnancy) the blood pressure on baby’s cord was high and baby was measuring small and not growing. I was offered induction at 36+4, ended up delivering at 37+0 perfectly healthy baby and she was a bit bigger than the scans measured her.

So, it can go well. They’ll tell you to keep an eye on movements and come in when in doubt, you don’t want to take a chance with your baby. It’s good you’re 31 weeks, baby is well developed by this stage.

One of my twins stopped moving but I had no idea due to the other twin being so active. His growth had slowed too. I went in for a check up as I felt unwell and I had an Emcs a couple of hours after I arrived.

My advice to you is to keep going back if you are concerned. It’s great that they’re monitoring you so often, but if you don’t feel any movements for a couple of hours you really need to go in. I’m not trying to scare you, but if I hadn’t gone in when I did DT2 wouldn’t be here now. It’s always better to be overly cautious and they will want you to go in if you’re concerned about movements

@Monique007

I'm glad to hear all went well with your little one. Don't want to take any chances so will definitely keep an eye on the movements and go back in if needed.

@SinkGirl

Thank you. Will definitely keep an eye on the movements and go back in if needed.
I think I'm being silly at times as I had reduced movements with my first one (who was born healthy but on the small side) and got "told off" by a midwife for coming in too often, even though the other midwifes kept booking me in. So am weary as I don't want to waste anyones time this time around. But will go back in if needed to make sure my baby is well.

I hope all is well with your little ones after an eventful arrival into this world.

As above, monitor movements closely and return immediately if there is a decrease - even if it’s the same day as you’ve already been monitored.

Without meaning to frighten you, one possibility that it sounds like could be some sort of placental insufficiency, especially the slowing in growth. Can you call back the unit you attended and ask for someone to explain to you possible outcomes? Did you see a doctor or just midwives? And when is your next appointment? Could be worth bringing a notebook with any questions and to note down answers, or ask a friend or partner to accompany also.

But most important is that any change in movement must be seen as quickly as possible. And this includes a significant increase in movements, as well as a reduction. Without meaning to worry you unduly, please don’t hesitate to return if any pattern of movement changes. Even if you feel like you might be time wasting or something; you’re not.

Best wishes.

I had this I was induced at 37 weeks exactly, baby was born healthy albeit a dinky 5lb 8. They'll keep a close eye on you however will most probably induce xxx
